Default First fish...True Percula's lost one......

Well, I finally got my first fish in yesterday. Tank parameters were great. Acclimated 2 True Percula clowns over an hour period. Both were swimming around fine and appeared to be happy in their new home. This morning, I woke up to find one of the clowns dead and laying on the sand at the bottom of the tank! I bought them small as suggested with the hope of possibly getting a bonded pair, and now one is gone! The other one appears to be doing fine, but I want to add another one ASAP. I wanted a pair of these clowns, and it sucks to lose one so soon. Should I wait to add another one, or try to get one about the same size from the LFS tomorrow when their next shipment comes in? I read something about them fighting, but I thought that these fish live in pairs in the wild. BTW, I ordered the fish from LiveAquaria.com, and they were wild caught percs from off the coast of Bali I believe. I've got my 14 day gurantee on the fish, but shipping wouldn't be worth it to use that credit now. Probably better to save the credit for when I order my Powder Brown Tang next month. Any suggestions?

Not saying it would have made a difference but use a QT next time.

Yeah.
QT...I don't care what anyone says, QT QT QT. Once that fish died, if it had any parasites, they all were just released into the main tank.

I would set up a QT, toss that other perc in there for observation. Do not put anything else into that display tank until you can be sure that you will not be shortening its life with a nasty pathogen/parasite. The percs were probably quite stressed from shipping and that would help lower their immunities to disease. You can get captive bred fish that will cost less and is better for the natural reef.

As far as adding another perc later. In that size tank, you should be OK.

That's what I plan to do with future fish.......these were the first two fish, so I didn't think that would need the quarantine tank for the first fish......since there were no other fish in the tank yet. I have a little 10 ga. QT that I'm setting up.

Good!
The first fish can be just as diseased as the last fish. Stay on top of these things and disease should be the last thing you will have to worry about!
