Default Foxface Reef Safe?

I would really like to add a Foxface to my tank. I have been told by many people that they don't bother corals at all as long as they are well fed. I currently have a true percula clown (adding a second one this week), a firefish goby, lawnmower blenny, royal gramma basslet. Also, in my tank I have a Florida Condi anemone, yellow finger gorgonian and lots of inverts. My green hair algae problem is getting a lot better since adding the lawnmower blenny, but the Foxface is really pretty and would help out with the algae. Anything I should be concerned about, or should I be okay as long as I keep him well fed. Thanks. I also plan to add a blue hippo tang, & a powder brown tang in about a month.

Yes, If you dont slow down you run a very high risk of losing your tank IMHO.

Need to read and research more.

Good luck

Ok, can somebody please answer the question I was addressing in this topic? I think it is being assumed that I just dumped a bunch of stuff in my tank..........that is not the case. The tank ran for 1 - 2 months and completed cycling before I added anything. I added my Live rock, then waited about 2 weeks before adding the sand. I tested repeatedly to make sure all of my water parameters were good before adding anything to the tank. When I first added something to the tank, it was Starburst Polyp & som ricordia mushrooms. Around the same time, I slowly added my cleanup crew. Hermits, snails, sally lightfoot crabs, etc. After those were in the tank for about 3 weeks, I added a Candy Cane Coral & short tentacle plate coral. Roughly 2 weeks after that, I added my first fish, the lawnmower blenny. After the lawnmower blenny was doing well for about a week, I went ahead and ordered some more stuff online. My LFS apparently does not like to stock anything that I try to buy from them, so I have to order online. Added 2 true percula clowns, Royal Gramma Basslet, & a firefish goby. Did not plan on getting the firefish or the yellow tree gorgonian this soon, but I had to order at least $79 of living things from Saltwaterfish.com for them to accept my order. Same type deal at LiveAquaria. I added some Yellow Colony Polyps & a Florida Condi Anemone at the same time as well as two lettuce nudibrach & a blue tuxedo pin cushion urchin. Green hair algae is almost completely gone in my tank now. I have started dosing calcium and my coraline is starting to take off. All of my fish are doing well and eating frozen mysis & flake foods. Water parameters are good, and I added 2 x 150 watt heaters to maintain a water temp of around 79 degrees. I am doing weekly 20% water changes and everything including my gorgonian is doing well. I am not trying to rush things, but I can't add 1 thing at time b/c I can't afford to pay $35 shipping everytime I order something live. I do not plan to add anymore than 2 fish at time in the future. The 4 I added at once were all small. They have been in the tank for a couple of weeks now. I have a quarantine tank for new arrivals. All I am asking here is "Do I need to worry about the foxface bothering my corals?" I have been told by a knowledgeable LFS that they are reef safe. Just trying to confirm from others experiences. I am doing my research, but sometimes it is good to get others input. As long as I test regularly and my water parameters stay good, I perform my weekly water changes, maintain the temps, I don't see how I can be at risk of losing my entire tank. I test PH, ALK, Nitrite, Nitrate, & Ammonia weekly, and I am now testing the calcium level every two days until it is up in the recommended range. I am dosing the daily recommended amount of Kent Marine Tech CB.

Sounds like you've got it goin' on. The Foxface and One-spot Foxface Rabbitfishes appear to be the smaller of the species. They are primarily herbivorous and should not bother your inverts. I've had a One-spot who got caught in my outflow and died. It didn't bother my soft corals, SPS or LPS corals. It was an excellent algae grazer.

One point of caution -- the spines are venomous, but supposedly not as venomous as scorpionfish, lionfish or stone fish.

I've had a foxface for a year in my reef tank and he's never caused one bit of problem. A great addition!

Ok. Here is what you want.

The Foxface is a great reef fish. Calm placid, gets along well with others eats algae and readily eats off a seaweed clip. Great additon.

Those are 2 great Tangs also they would also make great additions to to your tank.

Good luck.

my foxface is the perfect reef fish so far. Gets along great with smaller fish, corals and shrimp. Did a great job on eating all my hair algae also. I feed him seaweed daily now because he's done almost too well of a job eating algae, and I want to supplement his "green foods". He also keeps any algae from growing on my gorgorians.

I've had a couple different Foxface Lo and I'd definately consider them reef safe. They did a better job than any tang I've ever owned with eating nuscience algae and always left my corals and critters alone.
