Default help deciding what fish to get

Hi, I am planning to build an aquarium with lots of rockwork and plants and such, I would like to have the rocks in such a way as to create an arch or two for fish to swim under and such. Ok now to my question, I was looking at the gallery and noticed someones juv emperor, i looked for more photos of this fish and its amazing how it transforms and changes color. Would this fish be fine with clown fish? Clown fish are the other fish I wanted to get. Can an Emperor also be in a tank with a Desjardini Sailfin Tang? I dont want to get too large of fish and would probably search for the small Emperor. My g/f said she would also like to get a small seahorse but she looks the look of the Emperor and the clown fish too.
Just wondering if these would all do well in a tank or what else we could have in a tank with a couple clown fish and a emperor.
Thanks in advance.

Emporers are going to require a large tank! How big are you planning on making your tank?

I heard the rule of thumb was 1" per gallon but I'm getting a 40gallon acrylic tank, magnum 330 filter, hood and lights for 100$ all in good shape. Tank is 36x16x16. If an emperor wont work in that tank is there a colorful colorchanging angelfish like it that would work? What about a French angelfish, Pomacanthus paru:

I dont see a way to edit my previous post but it looks like that one needs a big tank also, what about a regal angel in a 40gal with lots of rockwork?

I would not put a tang in a 40 gallon...any tang.

Your emperor will be too big for a 40 as well. Clowns with an appropriate anenome will be perfect. Stay away from seahorses unless you have a seahorse only tank. Becky's right, as usual. Tangs require minimum of 75 gals, to live healthy and happy of course.

If youyr heart is set on a colorful fish, looks into the dwarf angels. The flame angel and coral beauty and very colorful fish and are so fascinating to watch.

Here is a site that lists many dwarf anglels with all their specifications.

Thank you for the link, the two you mentioned do look very nice. I assume they cant be kept in the same tank if u wanted both?
It also says their semi-aggressive, would they be ok with clownfish and other non-aggressive fish?

Any reason why its best to stay away from adding a seahorse? Are they just too hard to take care of or??

You can add the two angels at the same time, but it is not recomended because one may bcome more3 sominant than the other. The angels would be fine with non-aggressive fish. I have a small tang, a coral beauty, engineer goby and a clown in my 55 and they are all happy and swim together.

As for seahorses, they are not recomended because they are very finiky and picky eaters. They also do not like a lot of flow. That is why they are best kept in a species only tank.

Are there any small tangs that would be ok in a 40gallon?

well, I guess you could always buy a really teeny tiny one and have it in there for a few months, but honestly, it is not worth it. It just puts too much stress on the fish.
