Default Regal Angelfish Question

I am looking at buying a Regal Angelfish and I have been trying to get information about them but I keep getting mixed information. So the question that I have is if anyone has attempted to keep them in a reef tank and if so what corals did they pick on? Also what foods did they like to eat? I have read that red seaweed and mysis shrimp have been the most popular but I was looking for some personal experience. Thanks for the help.

Almost every Angelfish won't be reef-safe. Regal's in particular will feast on your corals. We went against everyone's recommendation and got an Eiblii Angel because he was very pretty. Ate at least 10 times his cost in coral. Sad fact of life. For color and beauty, consider Anthias'. There are many varieties and colors. Not as large, but very safe. Also tangs/surgeonfish - they'll also provide size and a variety of colors and won't digest your tank....

Hi,
One of my tanks is a 92 gallon reef/fish tank. It includes a Majestic Angel, Emperor, Regal, coral beauty, and Flame angels. The Regal is currently eating a plankton/mysis mix, Sally's multi-pac, Brine shrimp, and both red and brown algae sheets.
On the Frozen stuff I use the Kent Garlic Extreme which appears to be working.

I have mostly soft leathers, mushrooms, and sponges. The Regal has picked at most of them, however only really works on the Sponges (Bread crumb), Star Polyp's, Colt Coral, and Xenea. I want the fish to aclimate, so to be honest I do not mind it snacking. By the way, The Emperor and the Regal both seem sensitive to salinity flux, so keep an eye on your salinity consistency.

Thanks for the info I have read that Regals will mainly stick to one coral to eat. My tank is mostly soft corals also and a few sps and lps. I just wanted to hear some input of how regals react in reef tanks any ofter input is appreciated.

If you are looking for an awesome fish that will not butcher your corals the ACHILLES TANG is definitely the way to go, just AWESOME. They are classified as expert only on drs foster and smith aswell, but with the Regal being that aswell it probably wont matter much to you.

I would get another tang but since there are 3 in my tank already I haven't wanted to try a 3rd one but the achilles tang is really cool.
