I have decided I really like the clowns! I'd love to have a 'school' of them but not sure if 5 is too many in a 55 gallon. I have over 70lbs of lr, lots of caves, and still lots of swimming space. I basically would like at least 4 but am not sure if any fish would get picked on in the group.

Also, I'm planning on not very many more fish after the clowns, would you agree?


Any suggestions on how many clowns? Oh, my tank is 7 months old, all levels are good.

Clownfish aren't really the "schooling type" but when in larger groups some may end up getting killed before a dominate one is established if that's even possible. Normally if there's an odd number say 5, there will end up being 2 pairs and the 5th will either be killed or left alone by itself.

No problemo...but be careful because in a small tank the pairs will act aggressive towards each other, that's why a tank of atleast 150 gallons for 2 pairs is recommended

for a 55 gal tank you could get away with it if you have pairs, Like reefnoob1991 said, and also if you have multiple anemones. not cody anemones! most clowns prefer sebae anemones, carpet anemones, BTA's and Heractis magnifica anemones.

I meant clownfish pairs, not the anemones...clownfish are very territorial and once they become pairs they will become very aggressive.

Clowns should atleast have a tank size of 20-30 gallons

Yea, that is really small for a pair of clown fish. And if i am not mistaken those can get big compared to most other clowns.

i am just going to keep them in there till they get big enough t put in to my 36 with the other fish
