do you have corals and inverts in your tank??? If not treat him with some meds from your LFS and monitor him. I think there is something like kick ich that can be used with reef tanks. Also increase your temp. to like 86. That will kill the parasite. You will need to keep the temp.s up for a while because of eggs that will be hatching in a couple of days. I had ich on Powder Blue Tang in a reef tank and this is what I did to resolve the problem.

Blue tangs, hippo's and powders are very prone to skin issues.. But don't dispair they are "hardy"...

What worked for me, and i know there are better methods was this..

I had a bowl of fresh ro water, and a bowl of RX treated saltwater for 15 minutes..

I dipped him in the freshwater for 30 seconds, then directly into the rx treated saltwater,
I did this everyother day for a week and a half, and wala! no more ick.. Also you may want to get a cleaner shrimp and a cleaner wrasse, the hippo will loooooooovvvvveee them both

Good luck..

I wouldnt worry about it too much, but thats just my opinion.. I dont like the so called "reef safe" chemicals.. I had bad luck with those.. But the dips worked, and the blue tang handled it pretty well, and was in very very poor shape prior to it.. I think you will notice a difference after a few dips...

I feel for ya tho, it sucks...

Heres a pic of my very healthy hippo now, if he could talk he'd tell ya i did him good lol

KENT

Expert Series RX P i cap per gallon, mixed with your saltwater.. it says u can use it in your tank and its reef safe, however, it stressed my coral pretty badly so i prefer to dip the fish instead.

The freshwater dip prior to oing so worked awesome, you can actually see the ick falling off. but only do the freshwater dip for about 30 seconds max.

Has he established a place to sleep at night yet? Mine slept behind my powerhead in the one corner of the tank, right at the surface. When he popped up with ich 3 weeks ago after a month in the tank with no signs I was able to catch him with specimen container in about 2 minutes at night. I put the container behind him and gently used my free hand to herd him backwards into it without waking him completely and panicing him.

I have never heard of it, but you are either going to stress him out a little and maybe he will die along with alot of your other fish if he stays in the tank, or you can remove him, piss him off a little bit, and then make your other fish safer aswell. Also, cant the ich parasite live in the sand for around 6 weeks and you need to remove everything for that time period

I have used kick ich and worked wonders. I used it in my reef tank because it said it was reef safe, but then my BTA died a few days later.

Dumping copper in QT, chemicals in the tank...are you guys doin any research before? First off, how big is the tank? How did you acclimate it and how long? Get a QT tank and do a hyposalinity treatment. I did one on my clownfish months ago and rid them of ich.
ATJ's Marine Aquarium Site - Reference - Hyposalinity Treatment
And cleaner shrimp ridding the skin of ich is a MYTH! Ich is under the skin and cannot be reached by them, only external parasites.

ok from what i understand i should fill the qt tank with the water thats in my reef tank. and gradually take the salinity down. one question i do have is do i want substrate or not because of what i have seen some fish like it and some don't. but i did read that the parasite will find a home in the crushed coral. also when i do this can i put some copper medicine in the tank to kill the ich?

Copper is deadly to corals and inverts, and really what you can do is get the QT tank, mix up a new batch of clean water and mix it with salt to match your tanks pH, as long as your reading low levels the fish should be fine to put in there. You don't want any substrate just maybe an ornament so the fish can hide and feel less stressed.

The problem with hyposalinity is that even at a los SG of 1.009 many parasites can still survive that. Also, keeping a fish in low levels of salt like that really stresses them out.
