ok first off 10 years in saltwater does not make me new to the hobby .. i set my tank up in less then a week only because i bought my lr from a established dt at my lfs and my sand as well there for my cycle time was days and not weeks .. of the fish i put in my tank from the start only 1 has gone missing and it was a yellow demsil .. i have been using tap water for 10 years with great results , probley because i live in a good area for tap water .. i dont doubt ro/di water is a good way to go , but tell me why i would go that route when tap has been good to me for so long .. also i took care of my nitrate problem with a dsb/cheato area in my sump .. so with all that being said .. tell me how many of you have not had any ill fish . i have had my share of them but not in this reef and never due to water quality ..

I think the last pool is good until March. NATIVE, you lost the last one, I am about to lose it...I think that pool ends closer to March. Brian would have to get us the dates.

Gary, what time spans are we looking at? 2 week spreads like in the last pool? Better get out the calendar!

Everyone got 2 weeks!
I'd say this one is up for grabs...I believe I read on the first page that he went full reef in November...it's been about 4 months. Might want to start looking at the water quality report for his area before locking in.

red, just a couple of questions for you.If all of your fish died today would you tell us? I really doubt it.Do you honestly believe that you are providing the best possable enviornment for your fish?I dont think even you believe that.Could you provide a better enviornment for your fish? You know you could. Will you provide a better enviornment for your fish?I doubt it.You are determined to prove us wrong no matter how many fish you kill or make miserable.

if anything happens to my tank or fish you can be sure i will post it , as far as my enviornment for my fish to live in well , i havent lost any yet to think i am not doing right by them . but in reality do you think taking a fish from his ocean home and putting it in your 65 is providing the best enviornment either . my fish swim happy and healthy .. when they outgrow my tank i bring them back to my lfs where they can have a bigger tank and get sold to someone with a bigger dt at home..

The last poll will ends on Feb. 23rd, but has anyone heard any updates on "the tank". I haven't for close to a month now. We may have missed it.

R-e-D - I don't have any problems with you using tap water because in a few places in the country it is fine. One of the problems with tap water is that you may think it is fine and then all of a sudden all h**l breaks loose as stuff starts building up in your tank over time. Comparing tap water use in a reef tank vs any other type of tank is totally different. you can't really compare the two because of the corals and very strong lights. My biggest concern is adding 5 more fish to a small tank that had high nitrates a week ago and is maxed out at 4-5 fish. Although it is a pain in the butt, your upcoming algae, coral or invert problems that may show up through the use of tap water can be resolved. It takes time to know if your nitrate issue is really solved since nitrates build up over time. Adding a DSB and chaeto in your sump will help, but that doesn't guarantee that it will be enough. No, putting any fish in an aquarium isn't as good as letting them remain in the ocean, but we all should strive to give them the most swimming space and natural environment that we can.

I will never forget what this one guy told me many many years ago, and believe me, anyone alive that saw his tanks would say "this guy knows his stuff".. He had tanks literally wall to wall on just about every wall in his living room and bed room, beautiful tanks.

He told me to "toss the books" over exaterating of course, and liesten to only a few people, (the more people you liesten to the more confusing it gets), so many opinions out there..

Take a little, experiment a little, learn a little, but have fun with it. We're going to make mistakes and adjust, i made more mistakes than "succeses" in this hobby, and some of that came from "popular opinion"..

either way, this is a hobby, fish WILL die, coral WILL die, and with that kept in mind we try other aproaches and just enjoy it. Some people are further along in this than others (me).

I saw a tank on this site (i think it was here), that won some award, i think this tank had 62 fish in it or something like that, and reading the contents (type of fish) he/she had, i would have never put some of those fish in my tank together. But ya know what, the tank was incredible and i bet he/she loved it and very few on here would have "challenged" this particular "enthusiast"

So I take whatever people say with a grain of salt (pun), and i try not to judge too much in this, advice is great if someone is asking for it tho.

~cheers and enjoy

However horrible the conditions in my tank may be they are certainly better than the conditions in your tank.I do provide the best conditions humanly possable. You by your own admission do not.

thats what i dont get native , you say my coditions are bad .how? all my fish are fine ,all my corals are fine , both my anemones are fine, all my parameters are are normal . so where are the bad coditions?
i test my water every saturday.
i change 5 gallons per week .

i understand it is not possable for everyong to use tap water and it might be a bit of a hassle to make it on thursday for use on saturday but it works for me and has for years . if for some reason my tank gets some unwanted aglea or my parameters go into shock maybe i will look into a ro unit but for now i will stick with what is working .

I'm with rlcline76 and nativeman. It is a shame.

You wouldn't put 8 dogs in a 6 X 8 room saying they look fine now it'll be okay in the long run, and I'll just open a window when it gets stuffy. Same deal w/ the 36 gal with some fish that require 135 gallons. Its not fair to the fish.

R-E-D has an answer for everything just like my kids. I wasn't comparing dogs to fish just pointing out that people should treat all animals the same way as far as living conditions are concerned.

I don't mean any disrespect but why are you even on this forum if you don't listen to anyone's advice/suggestions? There are a lot of knowledgeable people here. I guess the old adage is true - you can't teach old dogs new tricks.
