Default 6 line wrasse ?

I've had a 6 line wrasse for almost a year and all of a sudden he/she's got a huge belly. Does this type of fish typically gorge themselves once in a while or is it prego??????

The fish has never eaten that much in the past. Anyone had this happen to them before? I'm talking puffer fish size belly.

Are there two of them or is it just the one. If there is one i doubt it is pregnant, i do not think fish can reproduce a-sexually...

I only have one in the tank. I didn't know if some fish lay eggs and then a male takes care of the rest like some freshwater fish. Anyway, it looks like its going to burst

I only feed my fish once a day and don't feed that much at all.

Could it possibly be internal parasites?

It could possibly be some type of internal parasite or it could just mean that it's eating good. I've had 6-lines that had very large stomachs due to them eating pods within the tank, along with my light feedings.

Thank you for your responses; you all bring up some very valid points. I think he must be bingeing himself .

Jeremy, to answer your question of the benefits of a 6 line wrasse; they are a good addition to most tanks because they are said to be disease resistant, very colorful, and don't grow too large. They are shy though and may be difficult to find in a tank at first. There should be plenty of hiding places and a fine substrate is recommended. They will wedge themselves in rock work or bury themselves in the sand at night for protection.

Six Lines will eat mysis shrimp, brine shrmip, krill, fish eggs, snails, urchins, shellfish, flake foods and chopped fish. It benefits Tridacna clams by eating pyramidellid snails. The Sixline will attack live shrimp. They should be fed a couple of times per day.

They are compatible with many fish, but tank mates to avoid are grammas, gobies, cardinals, eels, lionfish, large angels, triggers, other wrasses and shrimp. They will clean Tangs, such as the Regal and Yellow Tang. They tend to attack new tank inhabitants regardless of whether they are compatible with them in the long term.

I bought my 6 line wrasse simply for its size and coloring. They are a really cool fish to watch (very fast) and they don't grow to large, so if you have a relatively small to medium size tank it is a good fish to get. I have heard that some people have had problems with these fish as far as temperament, but mine is very peaceful and leaves my clowns and damsel alone.
