Default has anyone ever lost a fish?

Check this out. I set up a 24 Aquapod, I found an Allardi clownfish that I really wanted, so I set this AP24 up just for it. Cycled the tank, yada, yada, went and picked up my Allardi. Everything is cool for about 1 1/2-2 months. Yesterday about midday I go over and feed him some Spectrum pellets. A couple of hours later I glance at the tank, no fish! So I look, and look, open the top and check the back compartments, move some of the rocks around, nothing. No fish, no body, nothing to be found. Hermits aren't cleaning anything up, I mean this guy has flat out disappeared! I'm talking about a 2 1/2-3 inch clown.

Maybe it jumped out? Check behind the tank. I have had this happen before too. I had a firefish MIA for 3 months! FINALLY one day I went to feed the other fish and I see the firefish really really skinny and sickly looking. I tried to feed it, but it wouldnt eat. Didnt see it for another month or so, then the same thing happend. Saw it really sickly looking. That was the last time I saw it and since then I have re-arranged all my rockwork, so I know hes not in there anymore.

i have lost many fish, many have committed suicide by jumping into the rear skimmer area where there is of course no water. some just disappear into the rocks and the crabs and brittle star take care of them so quickly you never see the body. i am missing 2 fish within the last couple weeks, an engineer goby and a 6 line wrasse, never ever found the bodies. i hope you find your fish alive. i have to look up an allardi clown, never heard of it.

Steve, an engineer goby will gay way to large for a 29g tank.

Also, they like to hide under rocks and in the sand. They are hard to spot, but once you find their "den" they will always be there.

Do you have an overflow box ?

yeah, I've got 2 dogs. But it is an enclosed top nano, so I highly doubt it could have gotten out. I also checked the back compartments, I have some rubble rock in one compartment, maybe it buried itself in there. Only other thing I could think of is a mantis shrimp, but why would it wait 2 months and get the fish and not a hermit or snail first?

remember, there's no rule you cant get a fish that may get too large for you tank, thats why god invented TRADE IN'S. i thought about getting a panther grouper this weekend for $25, he was nice and tiny but could hold his own in my ghetto tank. i figured i could keep him for a year or less and then trade him in for something else but i didnt do it, guess i'll go use the money to buy milk for the kids...boooooooo!!

HAPPY ENDING! I gave up after not seeing my clown for alomost a week. Was gonna do a water change yesterday, shut the pump off and lo and behold, up swims Mr. Allardi from under all the rubble rock! I didn't think he could get under that stuff, but I was wrong. Anyway, I snapped a few pics of him for those that have never seen an Allardi clown before.

he's been missing for a week, what has he been eating? you never saw him come out to eat that whole time.....he must be on jenny craig or weight watchers....maybe there is a CURVES gym under your live rock.

There are alot of pods in the tank, I figure he must have been eating them. He doesn't look any worse for it, that is for sure!

My fish always jump into the back of my tank. I now have a habit of looking in the back everyday just to make sure nobody is laying in the back belly up on me.

its funny, you brought up your fish missing and i havent had a fish pull a "jumper" in a while, this new mother blenny i got on sunday is nuts. 1st it decides to jump into the #1 chamber of my cube..i left him in there for a day, i fished him out yesterday, no problem...this morning i felt the need to look at my tank at 6am before i left for work and i notice its missing so i flip open the back and there it is, but this time its in the #2 skimmer chamber probably slowly suffocating...here i am in my work close jumping on the couch trying to coax it out over the edge back into the tank...he flip/flopped and back in the tank it went. i called my son at home this morning and its missing again, right back into the skimmer...i had to have my wife "fish" it out again which took forever because she hates fish. hopefully it stays out of the back of the tank until i am able to stick some gutter guard on the back wall to prevent any more jumps. wish me luck.

I was going to say, you are going to need something to keep him out of there. Maybe some Eggcrate if the gutter guard does not work.

i have found the gutter guard works alot better than egg crate. i started out with egg crate many many months ago and the fish still got thru it...with the gutter guard its impossible to fit thru the small holes.

dont worry though...i always have an extra piece laying around for use...if he hasnt tried to committ suicide with any success, the problem will be rectified in the next couple hours. i still have 2 other pieces up blocking my #3 return chamber...thats the one chamber that if anything goes in, even if it wants to jump back into the tank..its impossible because of the water level...not even greg louganis could make that dive!! i had to do something to stop my snowflake eel from going back there anymore.

what kind of jawfish do you have miss blue23? i miss my blue spotted jawfish, he was probably one of the best fish i have ever owned. i had other jawfish after him(yellow headed, etc) but he had the most personality.

It is/was a yellow headed jawfish... He was great for the first day, when i could see him! lol

I tried the shrimp/garlic last night... nothing...

I have given up, he has been ofically declared dead... if he turns up, then great, but i'm not holding my breath =(

doesnt that just suck!! i never really found out what killed my 1st one but the other ones just got picked on too much in the beginning which just stressed them out and they gave up the fight. good luck on finding it..are you sure it didnt jump out of the tank or fall behind it or something? could it be in your live rock possibly or would you be able to see it? what else you got in that tank of yours?
