Default Removal of shed skin

I am new to Marine fish, I have a question. When my red cleaner shrimp and boxer shrimps shed their skin should I remove the skin from the tank, also how often are they likely to shed ? cheers

Hi, that has been debated. General consensus is to remove them, if for no other reason, for ascetics. How often they shed will depend on the individual. I had one shrimp that only shed twice in a few mos. and another that shed 4 times in a month.

My blood shrimp has only shedded once as far I know. The remains were taken care of within a day....presumably by my CUC. However, I would take them out if you have a smaller tank.

If you have a bubble coral you can feed the shedded exoskeleton to it and it should eat it. When I had them they always did. If your shrimp shed a lot you may want to test your iodine levels as chances are they may be on the high side.

I thought these guys would not shed if water conditions were out of wack, I understood that it was a good sign to have them shed.(correct me if i am wrong)

A lot of times, shrimp will shed after a water change. It's thought to be a result of an increase in the iodine levels. My shrimp usually shed after a water change (every 4-6 weeks) and occasionally when I add trace elements. I leave the shells there and in about 24-48 hours they're gone.
