Default six line wrasse

I am thinking about adding a six line wrasse to my 55 gallon. Currently I have two false percs and a royal gramma. After doing a thread search here I see that the gramma and six line may not get along. Anybody had success with this combo?

In a 55 gallon tank you can probably get away with it. Knowing that there is a possibility of conflict just keep a close eye on them for a few days.

Thanks for the reply. I am still not sure as I have a few peppermint shrimp and a skunk cleaner that I have a feeling they might make a good snack for the wrasse.

Are there any wrasses that will not eat peppermint and cleaner shrimp? I've been looking into getting one to help eat some of the worms I have in my dt. But I don't want them eating my shrimp!

Six line wrasses are fairly safe with your inverts. But occasionaly its possible to get one with a mean streak that can wreak havoc on your invert population.

Just about any of the "fairy" (cirrhilabrus sp.) or "flasher" (paracheilinus sp.) wrasses will be safe with inverts and are usually safe with other fishes including other wrasses. The "lined" wrasses (Pseudocheilinus) like the 6line and mystery are generally safe too but more agressive toward fish tankmates especially wrasses.

My Cirrhilabrus solarensis has been very easy going with other fishes and doesnt look twice at my shrimp.

edit -- The yellow coris is usually safe with inverts and other fish also, and is a good choice for flatworm issues.

Does your jump? I don't have a canopy on my tank, do all wrasses jump? I really like the more colorful fish but, the yellow wrasse seems to like eating an awful lot of pests in the tank! Do they really bury themselves in the sand when they're scared? That sounds funny.

And yes he does hide in the sand also i think thats where he sleeps also.

Just go get some eggcrate for the top of the tank. Lets the air exchange happen, does not hurt the lighting, and keeps the fish off the floor. That is what I am thinking about doing.

Ya, good point. That will have to be a project that waits till Christmas though and after I decide what to do about my huge skimmer; either getting a new one that's smaller but still works as well (or better) or moving my mamoth down under into the sump I don't have yet...

My husband really likes the yellow wrasse, that's a color we don't have in the dt yet.

I had a six line and a royal gramma in a 55 gal. Aside from a few "jawing" at each other when the six line swam in the gramma's favorite spot...they were fine.

I have a sixline and a yellow coris in my 120. I don't think I'd try both in a 55 though, as the sixline will occasionally chase the coris until it gets distracted. Neither one has messed with my cleaner shrimp or peppermints, but they may have gotten a few of the smaller hermits.
