Default Pictures and a Quiz!

OK, I have 24 different corals and anemones in my tank. The LFS guys tell me they are this or that, then the other guy says no they are this, the books say this, but the websites say that. So I thought I would post some pictures of my critters and have you pros name them for me. Later I will add a tank pic with the locations so you can tell me if I have something to close to something else. I have read several books, online articles, and anything else I could get ahold of, but you guys have common sense and years of experience.

So far this month, and it is only a few days old, I have been told my blue lobster will not come out during the day (will have the pic later), that I can't have baby seahorses (tell that to the 4 I have in a nursery tank), and that my damsels will not eat my coral (pic later)

OK this is a zoo, a bright green one, but what the store did not know was what is growing underneath it? Some say polpys, some say mushrooms, and some say candycane...what say you?

According to the LFS this is a bubble tip...I don't think so? Any guesses?

Hammer or Anchor? Book says one thing LFS another

This one I am sure is a bubble coral...I am right, right???

Pulsing Zenia, which has now divided itself twice since I purchased it!

This was a green with purple tipped bubble tip, I have no idea what it is morphing into. It is fed and seems to be happy.

more to come!

This is a frag area of pieces that have dropped off of other bigger pieces in my tank.

This is one of my colorful zoo frags, but I am not sure of the name. I notice that a lot of the sites have their own names for the different colors. Is this the way it is, or are there really set names?

My very happy star polyp. It has given me three other frags since I bought it back in June!

Mushrooms, but are they purple or blue. In mushrooms is there a difference?

This is my zoo/polyp area of the tank. There are greens, blues, purples, yellows, and I don't know what else! Any sites that have all the colors and names? The books I purchased only have a couple.

Open red brain coral, or so I am told. It does look like all the pictures I have seen.

This Tree coral is a new purchase from this week. I have set it up at the top so it gets lots of light.

OK, finger coral, tree coral, leather coral, devils hand, these are all names I have been told for this one.

Brown polyps with green centers. I have had this since I first purchase the tank in April.

Green brain coral. Is it open or closed? Other than color I don't see a difference between it and the red.

My hairy mushroom. Now it was huge and greenish brown and very happy. Lately it has gotten dull almost whiteish in areas and not as open. Is it lacking something?

A blue sponge...something I will never get again. I knew when the LFS guy took it out of the tank that it was in the air, but he swore it wasn't. Now it is about half the size it was when I bought it. What do you do when that happens, ask for another piece, deal with it as is, or just not buy any?

Just bought this yesterday. Was told it is the same family as the pulsing zenia, but not sure of its name. Now is this a natural color for this? I was amazed at some of the other corals there this week. They had really bright colors and I found out they were dyed. They swore this was a natural color for this.

This one is either daisy, flower, or a few other names I have been told. I don't think it is clove, and I know it is not snowflake.

A large leather mushroom. Tell me I have that one right.

Elegance coral, and I just love it. I moved it up more towards the light this morning and it seems very happy with it's new home.

Candy Cane coral???? Doesn't look like the one in the book, but the LFS swears that is what it is.

My favorite zoo!!! watermelon and so nice and bright. It started out with just two little polyps. I hope it keeps growing.

And now for the seahorse babies!

They were born on Thursday night and we have 4 little guys still going strong.

This coral I am not sure of the name at all, but where it was a bright green and soft looking it is now skeleton white and dead. I tested the water, I checked the calcium, I watched to see what was going on....my black and white striped damsels were picking it clean. LFS says that damsels will not do that...like H...they won't. So just a little bit of the bottom is still green so I took it out of the big tank and put it in with the sea horses. They like wrapping up their tails on the dead parts and the green part seems to have livened up.

Well I have bored you enough. Now lets see who gets the quiz right????

Those are some great pics.I would love to know what kind of camera you used to take them.I would not shame myself by trying to guess all those corals.

Yes, the first pic above is a clove polyp coral. Clove corals tentacles generally have 8 branches like yours. The second pic is a toadstool leather and the third pic is a candy cane coral. As you're finding out, there are multiple names for different corals and very often corals are mislabeled.
