Samsung S730---$120
7.2 MP
Has a Macro feature that works down to 7 centimeters

Not bad for an inexpensive camera.

Elliot,I have some very bad news for you. Those places will rip you a new one.If you try to buy one they will either tell you that you have to buy a warrentee or or a battery(both come with the camera) and if you dont they will cancel your order.I went thru it with 4 of those places. If you want to save a few bucks buy at b&h photo. They are not as cheap as some of the other places but they will sell you everything that comes in the box for the price advertised. One place even told me that the advertised cameras were not the same as the japanese canon and were made in china with chinese directions and on screen displays."If something seems to good to be true,it usually is".

The only advantage the d-70 has over the xti is 13 auto focus points, the xti only has 9.The truth is that canon has been eating away at nikons pro market for years.Canon has two cameras that can beat anything nikon has in the megapixel department. At 16.1 and this month the new 21.1.With nearly 50 different lens for the Canon you have plenty of choice's.I will say there was a time when the only camera to buy was nikon if you wanted the best, sadly that just isnt so anymore.

If you want the very best money can buy then the Hasselblad H3D-39, 39.0 Megapixel at $32,000 without the lens is the best but then if you can afford that why are you asking here for advice? lol Otherwise Wal-Mart has some good cameras for reasonable prices. Everyone is stuck on megapixels, as in more is better, but chances are you will never use anything near what modern cameras are capable of in everyday photography. I suggest you look for a camera that is easy to understand and use and has a good lenses. Sony uses Carl Zeiss lenses which are still the top of the line and are what are on the Hasselblad. Panasonic uses Lica lenses which are just behind Zeiss lenses and both have cameras that are affordable and easy to use. B&H online and Butterfly photo both have good reputations so if you are interested in online check there. I have the top of the line Panasonic Lumina that I paid $900+ for but can't post anything at the highest resolution because of the size limitations on this and most sites. Good luck in your search.

I just got for christmas (yes I know it's months away and because of that I'm not getting it in my hands till then) a samsung digimax s800....has lots of features...not as advanced as an SLR mind you but for a digital camera for someone that hasn't had a "real" one before it's going to be just fine. Regulary 250 I got it at 105...don't know if it's still on sale just check Buy.com

Lets see a wide angle for that would be about 100mm so one of those,a 250 macro and a 500mm.A nice ring light for the macro. And a full blown bowan black line.

You may want to do some research before making such bold claims. The only thing I see written there that is accurate is the megapixel statement that is correct. Which really does not mean that much since when doing serious photography you are shooting in RAW formats which makes mexapixels much less of an issue.

Nikon produces some of the best glass made.
The following is a link to Nikon lineup of lense.
Nikon USA Photography
Also with Nikon being the leader in photography for so many decades they have a much stronger line up of 3rd party lenses available for use with their cameras.

There are also many other features that the Nikon out performs the canons. To mention a few.

More focus points
More advanced metering system
Better flash system
Better feature set

You can check out any review you want they will all say that the D80 is a better system then the XTi. Especially if you check out reviews made by the professional photographers. Yes it is more expensive then the XTi, but you get what you pay for.

Actually I did make one mistake.I had been comparing the xti to the d-70.Actually the better comparison would be between the d-80 and the xti.More focus points:Conon 9 nikon 13 thats splitting some very fine hair.I wouldnt say better feature set, more features yes superfluous yes.As far as metering is concerned they are both in the overkill zone.Better flash system, maybe but once again its splitting some very thin hair.We could shoot all day side by side and I bet no one could tell the difference in the prints. And I did read two side by side comparisons between the nikon d-80 the xti and the sony a100.The A100 didnt even come close and the authors of both articles said what I just said.Thats why I bought the xti.
