We like going to Key West. Great bars! Be sure to hit Sloppy Joe's & Captain Tony's. The Green Parrot is 1 where the locals hang. Be sure to take the sunset catamaran cruise - can't be beat. The Pennekamp Park is protected & you can't take anything out of the water.

Received my PADI license on Pennekamp Reef in Key Largo, FL. Protected reef, you won't be able to scavenger anything legally and you really should not. It is an absolutely beautiful reef. I was mystified by the beautiful fish and live coral. Watch out for the fire coral. Enjoy this reef. A ust stop, if diving in FL. This dive also started my fascination with saltwater fishtanks. Have fun, but please follow the rules, so our next generation can enjoy this magnificant reef.

Oh i wouldnt dream of taking something from a protected reef. Our reefs are endangered as are most of the the reefs around the world i wouldnt dream of ruining it.

Honestly not sure about taking fish, don't see why not as long as their not on a protected reef. I would definitely quarantine them if you do in a qt tank for a minimum of 7 days. Not sure about the LR. I think it would be the same as the fish though, as long as they are not on a protected area I believe they are fair game. Please check the state laws before doing so....I'm just assuming.

You better check the laws. When the reef tank craze hit most of the states started protecting rock as well, that's why you see "cultured rock" on the market. They farm the stuff now in FL.

Thanks for the info Glampka. I'm sure blind1993 will check the laws in FL before doing any scavenging. Personally, I like to dive for the scenery alone, with the exception of lobster diving.
