I have a fairly decent size toadstool leather. The polyp extensions have been wonderful and the leather has really done well in my tank. Within the last couple of days it has developed a small dark brown crusty spot on the edge about the size of a dime. I wish I could take a picture, but I can not. I noticed it about 2 days ago and since I noticed it I also noticed the polyps are not coming out like i'm used to seeing. I gave it an iodine dip yesterday. Does anyone have any idea what this could be? If the polyps don't come out within the next few days is it safe to cut out the infected area of the leather?

Have you added any new zoanthids recently?You can always cut away at a leather if you have to but i know because it is a toadstool u dont want to.As far as what is on the coral,try to get us a pic so someone might be able to ID what the problem is before you go cutting away.

I will try to put a picture on here... Yes, I did buy a zoanthid frag the other day. Would that have effected the leather?

Yeah that is a better pic.But yes the new zoas have an efrfect on the leather.That is why the polyps wont extend and open.I dont know what the brown is.I would try to scrape at it before you cut,if you are going to cut at it.

Well... I came downstairs this morning and whatever the brown spot is seems to be spreading.

What is your heat temp at try to stay between 70-75 degrees, also whats your salt level I keep my reefs between 1.024-1.026, neverthless whats your PH, naritie, amonia, nartate, and phos levels. Another question do you know your clacium level? That should be between 380ppm-420ppm.
