Default sick tree coral

I got this last weds and its my first coral. Its been pretty droopy, my boyfriend saw it spread out all the way on Thurs and couldnt believe how big it can get but it hasnt done it since. The color looks good and nothing has changed since the first day so I dont know why its so droopy now. The fish and water tests are fine, and I've been leaving the light on 8-9hrs per day as I was told at the store I got it at. I know I have to feed it but the store told me to wait a few weeks. Is it dying?

That looks like my kenya tree coral. Where is it placed in your tank? What type of lighting do you have ? How's the flow ?

hi,
i agree looks like a kenya tree... they do well in moderate light and moderate to low current... light cycle should replicate their normal enviroment,,, i do my full spectrum light on a 12 hour cycle.

give it time if water values are good,,, it should perk up

thanks for the quick responses
I dont know much about the light, the tank is very small and hood is no longer in production so they had to special order the bulb when they found it, but I know the wattage is pretty low. The tank is also next to a window that gets a lot of sunlight, I have only had one algae problem the first month or so after I got the tank but its been fine since (the last 3 months). The current is good, but I moved it last night so it got more direct current and it looked much better today, it was puffed out quite a bit for the 10 min I was home in the middle of the day but it may have puffed out more after I left. But tonight I noticed some stringy looking stuff on it. I dont know what it is or if I should be worried about it. As I mentioned we have no other corals in our tank and the place we got it from fragged it themselves and had it in a large tank with their other corals that all still look fantastic so I dont know where it would have got something. So...what is it?

"Stringy stuff" usually means they're stressed out somehow. My guess it's from being moved (corals don't usually like that). I would consider upgrading your light eventually if you want to keep other type of corals. If your kenya tree "puffs out" in the spot you last placed it I would leave it be. Best wishes in reefkeeping !
