Default Feeding Corals - How Often?

Just wondering how often corals should be feed? I have a mix of corals;
mushrooms, zoas, hard plate type corals. These were recently acquired so
I just started feeding them at night because I read that they feed at night.
My daily schedule is to feed the fish once a day (in the morning) and the
corals once a day (at night). Just concerned about overfeeding since I am
getting some unwanted algae growth.

well, if you say exactly which corals you have, you would get a better answer, but, most corals will get all the nutrition they need from the algae within their tissue, but a little phytoplankton feedign will never hurt. you only need to feed phytoplankton a few times a week. also, try phyto-feast.

If your getting an unwanted algae growth, I'd stop spot feeding the corals completely, unless you have some that are non-photosynthetic (of which very few kept in the aquarium hobby are). Softies and zoos never need to be fed and most hard corals can get by without feedings as well. The ones that benefit the most from feedings only need to be spot fed once a week. If you know of any names of the hard corals that you have, please post the names so we can tell you if you should be feeding them.

Thanks for that info. I did stop my nightly feedings. Reading the posts during the
past couple of months, the only corals I know the names of that I have are the zoas
and the oval mushroom corals, which seem to be known as plate corals over there
in the continental US. Plate corals to us here are the flat thin palte type corals such
as rice coral and sandpaper coral. I'll have to post some more pics of what I have.
I've only posted my "mushroom coral" and "blue octocoral" in the gallery here.

You can actually feed them directly. Many soft corals, including zoos, will eat what you drop into the tank. Turn off your pumps for 5 minutes. Have your food ready, and gently drop it over your corals and allow the food to touch them. They can and will eat it.

I just got e-mailed an article on feeding corals (plain and simple) so am including it here where it might be useful to someone.
Feeding Saltwater Aquarium Corals - Part 1 - Corals Need More Than a Lot of Light

If you want your corals to reproduce more rapidly and grow faster, this article will help. In my case, I probably fed them too much as they grew so rapidly (xenia and yellow polyps) that I'm running out of room in my small 65 gallon, and am starting to see the turf wars start. Fragging 101 here I come. Or do I buy a bigger set up... ...No, I must not be greedy...... Free yellow polyps for those that can come get them!
