give it 3-4 days to fill up....they are like anenomies when it comes to taking in water. Mine wasn't looking that great when i bought it but after a couple days it filled up and now it looks better than it did at my LFS.

Xenia is a poor shipper. I wanted the white pulsing variety a few mos back and it didnt make it thru the mail either time. Fortunately the place I ordered it from gave me credit for it both times. Im still looking for that just right Xenia! Good luck!

mine is 10" under the water with two 93w comp. and a 175w 14k mh.

It took about 10 days for it to get used to the mh. I put it on the sand for the first few days and then moved up later on, but light acclimation will depend on what light it was under at the LFS.....but I would start out low since it was in a box under no light at all.

I would put on the sand and in the slowest current in the tank...give it time to recover.

good luck with it i hope if pulls throuhg.

I had bought a combo rock from the LFS that had about 3 different staulks about a month ago...Now it has 8 and they are pulsing like crazy, so I would say after 2 days mine were in full action...I did a gradual change of lighting for them...Just ran my 4X65 watt PCs for the first day and then added the 2X250 Watt MHs the next day and they have loved it since!

If you cant ship it how do all of us get it in our tanks? Last time I checked New Mexico doesnt have any oceans near by...It shipped fine for me. Put him in the tank and 3 days later it was big and strong.

I looked at a map of the US and since the last time you checked there are still no new oceans near New Mexico.

Tonz: I will summon the, "Fish Gods", later tonight and find out how everybody gets Xenia in their tanks and post the answer for you tomorrow.

RGRDGR,
I hope you can get more xenia as it is fun to watch it "pulsing"

I had xenia just transported from an lfs and barely kept it alive. It was very sensitive to changes in water quality, and temp. It needed to be acclimated very gradually as you would do to a delicate cleaner shrimp. I ended up turning up the tank temp to 76-78 and keeping it up at the top, nearest to the light. Also medium water movement on them is imp. . no sudden change in any factor, including too much change in carbon, skimming etc. Mine seem to like minimal skimming and lots of zooplankton and coral vitamins, etc. floating around.

I lost several stalks which fell apart into nothing,. I still am not sure today what caused it to fail, as the other 3 or 4 stalks continue to thrive and grow and spread. I understand some species are hardy and easy to keep, while others are more delicate and demanding.
Sorry for your loss.

RGRDGR, My xenia slumped over and looked dead one time, but came back to life the next day, they need to be placed high in the tank, and have only moderate water flow. Sorry to hear about your loss.
