xenia are funny some people say they grow like weeds and others have them melt in 1 or 2 days. Keeping a steady PH around 81 to 83 semens to work for me and they like some Iodine. Xenia was my second coral and I was one of the lucky ones. Mind you some of the experts my say I'm all wet. I'm just saying what works for me.

Be sure to use RO water, and like Edward said, keep your PH steady...best done with regular water changes.

I have probly 7 three inch stalks that seem to do well.. Iodine is what I use as well. They seem to grow like crazy.. I'm a member of the ARC as well and have been selling 3 stalks a month threw there. Mine flourish like crazy and I'm always fragging them down. Was this a mail order??? Or something from a friend.. I dont like to order anything threw the mail until the weater gets a little nicer over 50 degrees.. Hope you have some luck By the way what do you mean be there not doing anything?? Not pulsing or not opening up.

i just added a small frag of xenia into my tank on monday. it looked fine, i woke up for work the next morning and went to work..it must of falling off the rock so it was on the ground up against a piece of live rock...i got home...picked it up and repositioned it...it looked all eaten up, the next day it was completely gone, nothing but a gray looking SPLAT on a piece of rock...what a gyp!!!! good think i only paid $5 for the small piece. i am gonna save up for a piece of pom pom, looks alot cooler than the standard stuff.

A good test kit should come before more corals IMHO. Just thinking of the critters.

Pom Poms are the hardest of all xenias to keep. If your water is not perfect and the flow on them perfect then they probably wont survive. If you cant meet the demands of this finicky coral you should probably leave them alone.

hey tonz..if you dont mind driving all the way from mexico up to michigan..i'll take some frags!!!!!

i had the regular xenia many many months ago and it made it just fine until i bought some flamingo snails and was never told that they like to eat xenia like it was going out of style...otherwise i would probably still have that same piece but much larger.

Tonz, you should take some frag pics and throw them in the marketplace, I am sure they will get some attention there.

I've had my Xenia for about six months. It took off and started growing and spreading and just within the last week, a couple of small stalks are melting away. I'm hoping this doesn't keep happening. What causes this, just PH, or something more specific?

I'd love to see a pic of them! I'd be willing to pay for shipping if I like 'em!

Check the temperature. Xenias don't like it over 78 degrees. This is how they are controled in nature. In summer when temp. rises many xenias die off only the strongest survive. If this didn't happen xenias would take over the reef and kill all the other corals by coverring them and not letting them get light. So keep temp. bellow 80 degrees.
