Hi all,
I have a 55 gallon reef ready tank. I've been at this a little over 4.5 years. I've still got lots to learn and lots of goals to accomplish in this hobby. I have a 29 gallon sump/fuge with Miracle Mud (which I plan to replace), caulerpa algae, and live rock rubble.

I use a EuroReef RS-80 Skimmer for added nutrient export. Other equipment includes dual 250 watt Metal Halides firing 2 mogul based Hamilton 14K bulbs, a mag 7 for a return pump, and a couple of powerheads. The bulk of my circulation comes from an over the top closed loop that I set up using an Ocean's Motion super squirt wavemaker. I also utilize an auto top off system using a 10 gallon water storage tank, maxi jet 600 powerhead, and a float switch based top of unit from AutoTop - Your Aquarium TopOff Solution.

My display includes around 80 lbs of live rock, various mushrooms, som gsp, a hammer, lobo finger brain, green button polyps, various zoas, a large yellow figi leather, colt coral, giant frilly mushrooms, and soon to be a RBTA for my 2 new misbar clowns.

Fish include a diamond watchman goby, a green mandarin, and a yellow tang. I recently lost a tomato clownfish that I'd had for over 3 years to a carpet surfing episode. She will soon be replace with a pair of misbar clowns (mentioned above) and an RBTA.

Any questions, just ask!

Welcome aboard everyone.

Lets see... I started my own saltwater setup in october of 06 with an eclipse 12. This worked for a few months and eventually the bigger is better factor took hold. I upgraded to a 75 gallon tank in february. It all went crazy from there. Currently, The 75 has a whole lotta rock. Poundage I can't even begin to estimate. It's a softie only tank with Kenyas, (I have lots to trade if anyone wants kenyas) Different colors of Palythoas, mushrooms and GSPs. I plan on getting more softies but I take my time in finding what I want. Inhabitants of this tank are: 1 Sailfin Tang, 3 Chromis, 1 False Perc Clown, 1 EVIL Royal Dottyback, 2 large Engineer Gobies, 1 Scooter Blenny, 1 Sally Lightfoot Crab and numerous species of hermit crabs and snails. Lighting is done by 5 NO T8 bulbs. A mix of Actinic and 10,000K bulbs. Coraline algae grows much better in this setup than with MH bulbs. To finish up, I have a 20 long sump under the stand with a refugium and a Berlin skimmer.

This is funny, the first pic is my tank in the beginning and the second is a little more recent, though, not completely up to date.

My name is Nathan Morrell and I work with my dad in Pana. He owns a auto repair shop so i am a grease monkey by day and i enjoy working on my house and building new DIY stuff for my fish tank by night. I have just recently set up a 150 tank in by basement. i had a 75 before. I have no good pics of it yet. the tank is still pretty empty i have some zoos some lps and one peice of sps i plan it to be a mixed reef i like the way lps moves and i do like the color of sps so a little of both is great.

Sure. I know I have pics somewhere of when I first got them. They were maybe two inches long. Now, dear god, they're like 8. enormous. Fully adult, though. You don't get to see them often. If they had hands, I'm sure they would never let eachother go.

Oh, and just because its bad ass looking, I'm including a pic of my scooter.

And...

I also have an engineer goby and got it a while ago and is now on the verge of 7-8". One of the coolest fish IMO just because it looks like and eel and they have great personalities. Mine will let my hold it between my fingers.

Hi, My names Jimmy.

Ive got a 55g tank I setup in July. Ive got a 30g sump/fuge, protein skimmer, 300w heater, 2 koreila 3s, Life Reef overflow, big ball of cheato, mag 7, 50 pounds or more of live rock, 2 false clowns , zoas, and a bunch of snails. I just ordered a TLF phoban reactor setup and I also have a RO/DI unit. Ive also got a 75g freshwater tank full of plants and balloon mollies and a 20g FOWLR which is really boring. Im learning at this and pulling my hair out. Other interests include drag racing and building mustangs and other american muscle cars.

Ok, so I'm a little confused....is this a separate thing from RB?? I just joined RB last night, then was clicking through some links from another site I go to which took me to Reef central...once there I found this link which actually brought me back to RB. I live in Taylorville which is pretty much smack in the middle of Springfield, Decatur and want to be in a "local" club. So, I'm guessing as best I can..that I am?

Thanks!!

Gin

Welcome aboard. As Lowe said we are currently located on two forums. Between the two of us, we are attempting to keep all announcements posted on both forums, but ultimately, we'd like to get enough support to start a website here at RB. Hope to see you at the meeting.

I realized I didn't add my "set-up" well, really I'm in the process of right now. I had started thinking about a saltwater tank about a month ago, started asking question in a different forum I have been a member of for about 2 1/2 years now. I had an empty 55g and figured I'd use it to set up...until one day I took my hubby to the LFS and he spotted the tank of albino Oscars, needles to say we came home with a Oscar, I never really cared much for them, until we got him...well he is wonderful and loads of fun. Anyway that kinda took my plans away. Then low and behold a few days later, I found an add on Craigslist a 55 saltwater set up with a Damsel and a Clown...now my intentions at the time were to get the tank and take both fish (at least the Damsel) back, cause I figured even though I wanted Clowns, I should start with my own fish since they had been in there awhile I was worried about territory issues with them.

So we get there, OMG I felt soooooo bad for these fish, it was obvious they had not been taken care of properly and I had to take the tank, if for no other reason then to get them out of there, see I have a problem really when it comes to fish I SEE that haven't been taken care of or I feel bad about the way they have been housed...I CAN NOT go to the fish area in Wal-Mart....I have 2 10g male betta tanks, and a 29g female betta tank (with 5 females) because of this!!! That is also how I ended up with a Brackish tank one time (which I loved), I was at Wal-mart there was the "fish of the month" tank there and it was full of these "dragon fish" half were dead the other half looked like they were dieing. Needless to say I ended up coming home with one...actually I went home without one, but ended up going back cause I couldn't get them out of my mind, I had to at least TRY and save one...well brought it home, put it in the tank I was planing for a African Cichlid tank then researched the fish (yes, I know BAD!!!), but anyhow I found out it was a violet goby and need BW...I knew nothing about BW at the time, I quickly found out how to set it up, bought some mollies and a swordfish for tank mates and loved the tank...until the winter storm took out our power for 4 days....I lost the entire tank full of fish!!

Oh crap, now I'm way off topic....sorry about that Anyway, I have a 55 with just a damsel now that I am trying to fix all the problem in. That's my set up. LOL!!!

Should prove to be interesting...especially when I get to the sump building part Once, I get the live sand and things to add, I'll start a thread of the "rebirth"!! I could add pics of what it looked like when I got it home and go from there!
