Just a brief bit on our very brief history.
The Springfield-Decatur, Illinois Reef Builders is simply going to be a place to learn and for fun and fellowship.

I think I speak for all involved when I say, that we don't want some of the politics and constant bickering that goes on in other reef clubs. We're simply here to make new friends that share in our same hobby, and do what we can to help each other out and help each other cut costs.

For the time being, membership is free since we currently have no club related expenses that need funding.

We plan to hold an innaugural meeting in January of 2008 at which time we will discuss possible future plans and directions for the club.

I'll leave this thread open for suggestion of items to discuss, wants and possible needs for the club, etc. etc. etc.

What I would like from a club... I want is to meet with felow reefers in my area, check out there systems, talk about ways to improve this or that, Trade frags with, Go to bigger events as a "CLUB", hopefully boost the interets in marine life in our area.

Also everyone check out the RB market place, its new here to RB taking place of the classified forums, there has been alot of changes here lately @ RB check things out and get settled in!! its gonna be a long winter lets try and make something of it.

We need some input from others interested about what type of meetings, topics of discussion etc... and really try to get the ball rolling on this...

I am going to try to direct everyone in the area I know into making this happen for 2008.

hey i am here. i think it is good to get a group going that is at least a little closer to me.

meetings that where early afternoon would be best for me because i work till noon on sat. i ussally work every other sat but have been working every sat latley.

I think everyone should make a list of what they would like in a club or organization and what times would be best so we can try to organize a first meeting that would fit the majorities needs or wants.

I'm open Saturdays at any time until mid January, then our busy season starts, and I don't have a life until April.

I'll do my best to be a part of whatever is planned.

Just thought I'd post some comments of my own, I just joined RB and now the Springfield/Decatur club, being from Taylorville...I am very happy to of found this. I've never been part of a club and actually am still in the process of making my Reef (mixed) tank. I guess what I would want from a club is to learn as much as possible about this new interest in my life, and get as much help as possible from knowledgeable ppl, also to be able to find good deals on supplies that have turned out to be a bit more than I was expecting.

BTW, I have already taken advantage of the "classifieds" of RB...I will be sending payment for a lighting system tomorrow!!! YAY ME!!!!!!!!!
