well, it's main diet is pods, like it's cousin, the mandarin. these are both dragonets. if you have a scooter that eats prepared foods, you are a minority.

well, good luck with the bloodworms!
gsp is an invasive coral. i have to cut pieces of it away and toss them in the garbage. it's killing some of my sps.

Seriously, watch the GSP. Keep it away from other rocks to prevent its spread. Right before I moved and had to sell my first reef tank, my GSP had gone wild. I would tear it off of the rocks by the handful. It was very beautiful but couldn't be stopped. I was planning on replacing some live rock and isolating it from the rest of the rocks. Here is a pic of the tank. Look at the right side of the tank and on the back glass. I started with a 1 inch patch that I got from a friend.

to be honest with you it looked beautiful ? you could of gotten alot of credit at a store or selling it and get new live rock even though that could be dangeroues in a established tank, but i see your point so what do i do take it out ?

It is a very attactive coral. The water currents really made it look great. Don't get rid of it.

What I didn't mention is that I had previously re-arranged my live rock to keep all of the GSP on one side. That is why I had two separated rock piles. Left Side = no GSP. I had already talked to my LFS about trading some rocks for new LR or maybe some other frags. I just never got around to it since I wound up moving.

Just keep it on a rock that is not touching others and keep an eye on it. I had it for a few years with no problems and then I guess when my tank really matured it just took off on me. If I had been paying closer attention to where it was spreading I would have been OK.

Maybe I was hypnotized by those swaying green polyps

300 gallon tank with a dozen SPS can hold water params a lot easier than a 40 gal tank with half that many. On the other hand I dont think I saw where Ian said he needed a Ca reactor he just wants one.

Great looking tank by the way!

So was this selection good??

O and about the Metal halide it would help with the growth of my sps right
No actinics? This combo is way too much light for that shallow 40 gal you have unless you raise the fixture. At least get some actinics in there. 420 or 460 nm is up to you. Dont know what you are using for the MH but like MR X says you dont need it. IMHO you can have too much light.

I asked where your actinics were. Assuming you wanted them in your selection. You told me aquablues were actinics...soooo...you must know something I dont.

ok so here is where i dont no something and i want to learn ( i am not trying to prove you wrong this just shows my lack of knolwledge that i want to build on) so i thought blue bulbs in this case qua blues were atnics since an atinic bulb gives off a blue light ?
