Default Leaf plate coral.

I just recently purchased a leaf plate coral, and what I thought I was getting was a brite blue piece. Insted I got an ugly brown piece of coral. Now its been a few days, and I thought the brown color was do to shipping stress, the color should have turned blue by now dont you think. There is plenty of light, it requires 3 watts per gallon, my tank gives off 10 watts per. so you know there is plenty of light for all. My question is, does anyone have any experince with this type of coral?

thank you,

Mike Z

Where do you have it positioned & what kind of lights do you have? Sounds like you may have purchased on-line - perhaps they pulled the old bait & switch.

You may very well have too much light & are bleaching the color out.

What do you consider to be a "good light system"

to you that may be a power compact system and to others it may mean halides.

If you want help be specific when others ask about your tank.

You should say what size the tank is, the type of lighting/wattage. Your water test results and so on.

Without seeing your tank or the coral, I cant tell you if it will become blue or not.

You need to contact DR F&S on this one.

Ok sorry, my tank is 55 gallons 560 watt: 2-150 watt HQI; 2-130 watt 6 lunar lights ( current) So Im getting 10 watts per gallon. The water is perfect, I use distiled water and Instent Ocean salt mix. Also the calcium and other trace elements are added as directed. I have two power heads on ither side of the tank and a Fluval 405 filter. The water temp is between 76 and 80 degrees. The leaf plate coral (Montipora capricornis) arrive brown and did not turn brown in my possesion. Also Now my long tentical plate coral is dieing. Can you help?

Thanks,

You need to be more specific when saying your water is perfect. Need exact test results. Also what else is in the tank as far as fish & corals go? Exactly what additives are you using?

what is your iodine level?

I would not add any additives unless you are testing for them.

It could be any number of reasons. I could guess, but I dont know how it looks in your tank and I dont know everything you know about your tank.

Did you acclimate it to the light?
