Default snail clam question?

I ahd a wonderful dersa clam in my tank back when it was a 30 gal, it was doing wonderful growing and everytihng. I decided to get a maxima clam from a trusted lfs, within a weeks time the new clam died not due to my tank but its membrane being torn or eatin. About a week later my dersa i ahd for 6 months was died to i found a relly small snail inside it, same thing membrane torn.
My question is since i upgraded tanks ans got some new LR and sand would the lil buggers still be in the tank or would thye have died of by now, also are clams the only thing tht they feed on. ive found several very small shells in the tank jsut like the first ne i saw so i was thining tht they may be dead. I only ask b/c i found another really good deal on a dersa but i dnt wanna kill it.

John

Google Pyramidellid snail and see if that snail you saw is the same. Might give some more technical info there about lifespan. Arch enemy of the clams.

Once again....People will learn the hard way if they dont use QT for everything! Its just a matter of time.

Sorry for your loss. I love the clams too.

You said you added LR. Bad stuff can come in on this too.

If you are going to place the clam on the substrate make sure and put something under it to attach to. This also helps protect the clam from the bottom side as there are critters that kill clams from the bottom up too!
