Default something has eaten my croceas

I had a beautiful croceas in my tank for almost a year and it was progressing nicely and growing. Today I get home from work and it is open and not moving and looks about 1/3 eaten. What could be doing this? I am heartbroken. I have other clams in the tank that are okay.

Tell us your set up. Do not spare any details. What else do you have in your tank?

Okay, here ya go!
First of all nothing new has been added to the tank for about 6 months.
I have a:
scribble rabbit
majestic rabbit
2 watch gobis
sailfin blenny
several turbo snails and hermit crabs
about 15 different zoa's
several different mushroom corals
3 large and 1 small leathers
1 devils glove
some star polyp
one other large clam, don't know the name
2 fleshy corals can't remember the name
clown fish
few peppermint shrimp
blue tang
basselet fish
That's about it.
125 gallon with, CO reactor, good protien skimmer, sump, etc. all h20 measurements in line. As a matter of fact, every time I check almost nothing changes.

I also had a nice crocas clam that I had for only about 6 months. One day right after feeding a bunch of turbo snails came out of the sand and attacked the snail from the bottom up. His/her insides were gone in about twenty minutes. I threw every one of my turbo snails down the toilet. I have been told however that this is rare. Had it not been witnessed I wouldn't have had any idea. Not to say this is what happened to yours, but it is a posibility. Sorry to hear it.

Sorry to hear about your croceas. I had mine on the sand also. I just brought home a 6 line wrasse for pyramid clam control and other parasites. Don't know if I have any pyramid clams but 1 6 line wrasse in a 125 should find plenty of things to eat.
I am going to cool it for awhile and then get another clam. Since I have been doing so much research I have found there alot of exotic clams that I might like so I am going to pick the next one with care and keep it off the sand!!!!!

Could it be a fireworm or bristleworm?

I've heard it could be. I have been checking the tank between 2am to 5am for the last few days and the only one I have seen is about 2 inches long. I have seen no others.
Any suggestions on how to find them?
Bob

My mistake, yes, pyramid snails. I have added another clam since then and haven't had any problems, but I don't have any more pyramid snails either.
