Default My Crocea's

Here's a quick picture of my 2 crocera's

(I have 2x250 Metal Halides, hence them being on the sand bed)

I took the pic about 20 mins after I put the crocera on the right in

They are beautiful!!!. Do you have any crabs in your tank? Will crabs harm the clams? I'm afraid to try them.

Thanks

I picked up a maxima the other week, I'll have to snap a picture of it soon and post it

I have tons of hermit crabs in my tank at least 40-50 of them, I have 3 porcelin crabs, 2 serpant stars, 10 peppermint shrimp, pair of coral banded shrimp and 1 cleaner, various snails as well. Nothing has been bothering the clams.

I did have some kind of conch snail a few months back that killed my 1st clam overnight. If I didnt catch the snail in the act at 330am I would have never know, that snail is lucky I didnt kill it like it did to my clam. I gave it to a local with an agressive fish only w/live rock tank

here's a shot I took of my crocea's today, boy did they open up wide !!

and here's my new maxima, yet to open wide but its gettin there, I gotta bury the pvc into the sand when I get a chance to get my canopy off, I cant reach down enough, lol

anyways heres a somewhat descent pic, I love the different color pattern compared to my croceas.. all I need now is a nice squamosa or a gigas

Would dual compact floresnt lights be enough to keep a clam?

Yeh i research about 2 months on a expensive(that has a chance of dying) product before i buy it I will probly eventully get a bigger tank with MH, but for now i am going to stick with my 29g since the electric bill would go way ^up^.

You could always get a nice T-5 fixture for your 29gal, they are pretty well priced compare to metal halides....

T-5's are also electric bill friendly

That's a beautiful teardrop maxima clam. I like the two croceas and they look like they haven't burrowed to deep in your sandbed yet. Squamosas are easier to take care of than both the maxima and crocea species. Are you feeding them with anything such as DT's Phyto? I recommend feeding them once to twice a week with that to ensure proper health and growth.

The croceas hopefully wont burrow, I have rocks under them and both have attached there foot to the rocks, they move a little bit to the left or the right, but stay in the area for the most part, I do feed my tank with phyco pure and also phyto feast, I rotate which one I use every 3 days. I finally got that PVC cap off from my maxima and got it on top of a flat rock in the sand bed as well, I'm gonna make some room and try to get one of them into the rock work... They seem to love life under the 250 watt halides

I plan on a Squamosa next to complete my clam collection (until I get a bigger tank someday)

arnt clams great
