Yes they can move by quickly closing and opening. What kind of clam is it. Most clams are happier in the sand.

Two things Ross, clams have a foot on which the rest and turn around and move small distances. The do it to take advantage of the light.Second, having a lam in a new tank like that is almost certainly a death sentance.researching your tanks inhabitants well before purchase is a very good idea.

It's a Maxima clam. The thing is, I did not pruchase the clam myself. The last time my brother came to visit me he either fell in love with or got very jelous of my saltwater fish tank. He went to my LFS and wanted to buy his own tank. Since they know me so well there, They gave my good advice NOT to buy a saltwater tank because he really doesn't have the time to take care of one (He's in the Airforce and he's gone for weeks at a time). So while the he was looking at the livestock, he saw this beauitufl clam, which he bought for me as a gift. What a nice guy!

I took the adive to place my clam onto a rock close to the lighting. My clam has acutally moved itself half under the shade of a rock and half exposed to light. Can clam have too much light?
