hello, I am also from Kentucky and depending on what part, I can give you some places to check out. I feel the most important thing you can do before starting out is to talk to the people in whatever pet store you decide on to see if they know anything about what they are selling or just selling you fish and equipment. I would go with the place that was the most informative and helpful, Trust me, there is a big difference out there. Also, read "new to the saltwater hobby" posted at the top of this page, most helpful.
The other thing you can do is read as much info on the hobby as you can before makeing any investment in equipment and/or livestock. There are tons of places online that sell salt water equipment and offer info on each.
Most important thing you can do in the beginning is to decide on what kind of fish and livestock you intend on keeping, this will determine what kind of set up and equipment you will need to maintain and ideal environment to keep your animals alive and healthy. Remember, this is going to be an investment of your money and time, you can count on spending $35/$55 for every gallon of water in your system. |
