hello, I am also from Kentucky and depending on what part, I can give you some places to check out. I feel the most important thing you can do before starting out is to talk to the people in whatever pet store you decide on to see if they know anything about what they are selling or just selling you fish and equipment. I would go with the place that was the most informative and helpful, Trust me, there is a big difference out there. Also, read "new to the saltwater hobby" posted at the top of this page, most helpful.

The other thing you can do is read as much info on the hobby as you can before makeing any investment in equipment and/or livestock. There are tons of places online that sell salt water equipment and offer info on each.

Most important thing you can do in the beginning is to decide on what kind of fish and livestock you intend on keeping, this will determine what kind of set up and equipment you will need to maintain and ideal environment to keep your animals alive and healthy. Remember, this is going to be an investment of your money and time, you can count on spending $35/$55 for every gallon of water in your system.

Default Thanks

I have already got one saltwater aquarium, now I am interested in starting another. But where I am located at we dont have any pet stores and the ones that we visit which are at least 50 miles away havent got a great deal of aquariums. Especially no corner tanks or larger aquariums, and would cost to much to be shipped. By the way I am from Taylor County. Where are you from and where should I look.

I live in Shelbyville, grew up in Louisville. I understand what you mean about driveing to get stuff, thankfully, it is only about 35 miles for me. Here are the best places I have found for supplies and equipment:

Sandy's Pets(502)636-2743 1421 hess ln
feeder's supply(502)326-9404 9486 brownsboro rd
aquatica reef supply(502)261-0720 11481 blankenbaker access rd.

Feeder's has the best prices, Sandy's is the most helpful and aquatica has the largest selection of fish and corals and can custom build a system to your specifications. Hope this helps you out.
