Is a long tentacled zoanthid -aiptasia? If not how can you tell the differance? If they are the same why are people selling them?

an aiptasia is a harmful type of anemone. At least it can be harmful when it touches coral. They are typically considered a nuisance in the home aquarium because they will kill coral. Zoanthids are good in that they will not move around and kill things. They are also a tpye of coral, not anemone. You can go to Google and look at picstures of the two.

So there IS a long tentacle Zoo. I know Aiptasia is bad but mine are so small I wouldnt be able to tell the differance yet. Will peppermint shrimp eat zoo's if thats what they are? I saw my first aiptasia in real life last weekend in a friends tank and im leaning towards what I have isnt aiptasia. Thanks though I will keep looking for signs of good or bad from them

Pics would help. Sometimes it can a be a little confusing whether they are aiptasia or not.

A long tentacle zoanthid would be something like yellow polyps. an aiptasia is more of a clear color and may have some little coloration on it.

at your local cvs or walgreens you can pick up a suringe for a few bucks. Tell them its for your grandma or something. If you tell them its for your fish tank they will think you are using it fro drugs lol.

Maybe for my own personal safety I will send my grandma in for it. Then she will have to look over her shoulder as she sprints to the car yelling " i got the stuff, go go go "

touch it...

thats all you gotta do to identify it. corals will draw back a lil, aptasia will basicly disapear into the rock, unless you have mojano... no experience with those.
