Default How would I or should I?

I am posting a couple of pics to show you what I would like to do. I started a frag of some cool palys on the same rock with some rics. The palys (and the rics) have both grown considerably and would like to relocate the palys. I know they are dangerous and have read the posts on the fragging. Should I cut the palys at the base, as close as I can to the rock? And then place them in like a container covered with a mesh or something with rock rubble so they can reattach? The palys are just over a year old.

I would just cut them at the base and glue them to another rock. Just be careful handling them if you don't know if you are allergic to them. They contain Palytoxin. And be careful when fragging to keep them away other pets (cats & dogs) and small children. The water they have been in is also toxic to animals, so just be careful. Palys and Zoas are easy to frag though, and they can be out of the water for quite awhile.

Actually, based on your pics, i would chisel a bit of rock from just under where each ric is attached and then move them to another rock.

I agree with the chisel technique regardless of which you decide to move. When I frag zoanthids or palys I try to chip off at least a thin layer of the rock along with the polyp. If you get some rock with it, you can superglue the small chip to a new rock and have less of a chance of the polyp floating away.

Yes, I am concerned about the toxicity of the palys. Thanks to all for the advice! Will keep you posted as things progress.

+1 On cutting some rock....A scapel or coral cutter can do it no problem...Don't risk personal injury or coral damage by trying to cut them themselves....
