you could use a power compact, what size of tank do you have and dimensions ? makes a differance on amount of light you need. and do you plan to have anything else in the tank down the road.

get a t5 lighting setup. it will give you ample light if you decide to put other thing's in as well, and they really bring the color out in corals, as well they are cheaper than metal halyde's and use less electricity

I had thought the MH consumed alot of power also, but I had contacted my power company lasts week and they said running a 400W MH cost about $8 in 34 days. FYI

just got some green stars today. pretty cool and they really glow bright under my blue moon lunar. question: do zoo's and other corals need time of complete darkness after the daylight turns off or can you go straight to lunar light? also its normal for the polyps to close up at night right?

Why not!

Heres the whole tank under actinic only:

And here with both the actinic and daylight:

Makes a big difference. If I could, I would probably change out the daylight for another actinic but I think somethings need the daylight spectrum and some colors (like the orange of the tomato clown) get lost with only the blue light.

I use T-5's and am very happy with them, and get great results with my zoo's and my frogspawn's and my mushrooms.

I want to get into zoo's really bad now that my tank is established and has been going for almost a year now without any losses (fingers crossed) I am new to the site and this is my second post. I was wondering if anyone has any zoo's available for sale? Let me know, I do have some soft corals but really do not know what they are. i will give you a picture if I have one. Thanks everyone! I have learned alout in about 5 days on here. I have no way to resize my pictures so I will provide you with a link to my photobucket. Enjoy.

looks like frog spawn to me, hard to tell cause of the picture. you should be able to buy zoa's at your local fish store. there is also a ton of vendor's online, here is a good site to get them from also

T-5's are flourescent high output lights measuring about 1/2" (50mm) in diameter. They're very efficient and fairly economical. I have an Current USA Orbit X-Treme 48" 8 tube setup for my 90 gal reef. (4 Actinic @ 54 w / 4 10K daylight @ 54 w). It doesn't have that metallic shimmer that Metal Halides have, but my Pink Birdsnest Frag is growing like wildfire. It doubled in size in about 3 weeks.
