Default Zoanthids\button polyps

Are Zoanthids and button polyps the same thing? And does anyone know what is going on with them when they sort of fill up and look like a pin cushion?

Zoanthids or zoo's, Sea Mats, or Button Polyps They are all basically the same thing. from what I read the main deferents is Sea mat will have a purple mat under the buttons and buttons polyps are in a group but not attached to a mat. Don't take that for Gospel But I believe it to be right. Check out this site it is the best I have found on Zoo's

Blane Perun's Zoanthids Mania. Zooanthids information. Special Care Section on Blue Zoanthids, & Rare Zooanthids. All you would ever need to know about the zoanthid

Are you talking about when they close up at night or when a crab or snail crawls over them.

I have similar polyps mine are darker brown. And I have never seen them swell that way. So the best I could do is guess and I don't have a good guess. How about they are constipated, they are pregnant. As you can see I don't have a clue. I hope some one can tell you. It's got me curies I will do some reading and see if I can find some thing.

Where are your's placed in the tank? Mine are about in the middle of the tank. I have a 55 gal tank with 765 watts of light, 2 150MH and 4 65 blue lights but I don't keep the 2 150 MH on but a couple of hours a days because of the heat they produce. Maybe I should move them to the bottom of the tank.

I have T5 lighting 40w on a 10 gal. But I have had the polyps about 1/2 way up or about 6" deep in my tank they have been there for about 6 months. I recently moved them to about 11" deep because the rock has a purple mushroom on it that did like the spot. The polyps have not changed much maybe a little darker brown. The mushroom is a lot happier doubled in size.
