Euro Reef has been playing around with among other things new rotors. Apparently trying to get the rotors to become silent among other things (no kidding?). “We have been working on a new rotor assembly design that can be used on the RESUN/ GEN-X pumps we have been using on our RS Series skimmers. The goal has been to develop a rotor assembly that will be balanced and VERY quiet as well as yield an excellent result in pump performance and It’s actually quieter than the EHEIM 1260/1262!!”
“The entire assembly for an SP4 pump. The rotor magnet is REP (Rare Earth Phosphor) and incredibly strong. “
“The shaft by itself. Made of Zirconium ceramic for maximum impact strength and durability, the surface of the shaft is polished to an SUPER high gloss ensuring a smooth ride for the bearing.”

I did the same for the Lagunas. I sent the stock impellers into a magnet maker. I got back some SmCo (rare earth) magnets that are much stronger than the stock ceramic ones. Still testing, but should prove useful. The problem I see with the Gen-X/Resun motors is not in the rotor magnet though, but in the windings/stators. They arent designed very well from the start considering the actual current they handle… lots of back-EMF (wasted energy = heat).
