This isn’t much of a surprise, a mere two days later after we reported about the LED lighting aquarium patent issue going on in the industry several online retailers have pulled the Solaris LED from their websites. Additionally, local fish stores and retailers have started to pull PFO products from their shelves. The Solaris seems to be the one product that is targeted as it features a controller that is specifically mentioned in the patent. Granted, one of the largest pet retailers (Foster & Smith) was referenced by location in the suit and were sure that got their attention. What have our readers seen? Has your local fish store pulled the Solaris from their shelves? Report back to us and post in the comments.

This is BULL!!! THose people suing solaris are very very opertunistic loserS!
As I said in the other post and I will continue to say everywhere I read about this issue,” This sure seems like PFO’s fault to me.” We can not demonize a company for enforcing their patents. Which, by the way, were filed two years before the first Solaris hit the market. PFO knew about it and decided to proceed anyway. I don’t want to see them go out of business but they hung their hat on a technology someone else owned.
Gee, what did they patent exactly – putting a LED light source above an aquarium? What a novel idea… who could have possibly thought of that on their own? I think I will patent a 5 sided box made out of clear acrylic in order to store marine animals.
