The Osaka aquarium series is beyond a doubt a great example of good aquarium design. Although not rimless like the recent aquarium launches it offers a complete kit that can be easily be upgraded. The aquarium itself is comes with a  70 Fluval 305 canister filter, Fluval Tronic 300 watt heater, 36” GLO T5 HO Double Light System, 2 – 39 watt Life GLO T5 HO Fluorescent Bulbs, 4 oz. AquaPlus, 4 oz. Cycle, and 2.12 oz. food. Aquarium features brushed aluminum trim on the top and bottom edges and the wood grain stand features 2 doors with brushed aluminum handles, accessory drawer and shelf. A rubber mat is included and fits perfectly under the aquarium to protect the stand from scratching. Aquarium measures 41” x 20” x 24” and stand measures 44” x 20” x 25”. Granted you will have to make some adjustments for saltwater use, but did you notice the lighting hanging kit already included with it? Hanging a metal halide system from there wouldn’t be much of a stretch. This retails for $1150.

Being a former Hagen sales rep, I take all Hagen salt water ventures with some trepidation. I am currently involved in the opperation of a lfs. We have this system in opperation with salt.

There is one HUGE issue… Corrosion of the metal brackets supporting the Lights. Within months of filling and opperating as a reef tank, we had large chunks of corrosion dropping off the support brackets into the tank!. We quickly removed the brackets and replaced them with an alternate support structure.

The tank of similar design that ran with a fresh water set up did not corrode as quickly, but did show signs of starting to corrode after 6 months.

And the typical lack of space under the tank for hardware is an issue for salt systems.

Other wise, the tank looks great!
