Well that was fast. No sooner does Reef Builders post the first images of the fabled BK Cone skimmer that we learn that the first shipment of this exciting product is already on it’s way to the states. Additionally, Reef Builders has learned that the BK Cone skimmer will be made by Royal-Exclusiv but it will be marketed by Vertex, another European aquarium product manufacturer, and it will not carry the Bubble King name. The Royal-Exclusiv made Cone Skimmer will indeed be driven by the hot-rod Red Dragon 2 pump which will include some unique controlling features to automaticaly adjust the pump’s air intake and water level, how cool is that?  The Royal-Exclusiv Cone will be available first through Premium Aquatics and the retail price is said to be a couple benjamins less than comparable ATB models. You can count on Reef Builders to bring you the first hands on of the Royal-Exclusiv Cone Skimmer when they become available.

No doubt Bubble King is a good product but who buys this stuff? At 2k plus at a pop for the skimmers just seems over the top to me. Does this stuff run cheaper in Europe where it comes from?

For “hands on” hobbiests and an understanding significant other, other skimmer brands will suit their needs and they can spend the difference on other vices ;) .

IMHO/E, doing this for a living fulltime, BK skimmers have proven to be reliable, efficient and dead silent, especially when the system is in an area where noise is a factor. For it’s physical size, performance, power consumption, build quality and noise emission, it’s a tough product to beat.

Vertex, well, let’s just say I hope that Proline/RE keep a close eye on the QC/QA manufacturing/assembly process…cough…China.

For the record I am of Chinese ethnicity and can sympathize with those “burned” on Chinese/Taiwanese products in this hobby/industry.

The Vertex cone is all made in Germany @ Royal-Exclusiv & uses Red Dragon pump.
They are not made in china. I confirmed this with Klaus before I preordered mine.
Vertex has paid for the Molds & owns the right to the skimmer, they are manufactured all by RE in Germany.

All Vertex-Cones are made in Cologne/Germany in our Factory and not in China.. The complete Skimmer, include the Red Dragon Pumps, was made in Germany.
The Toolings for the Vacuum-Moldings was made in Cologne.
Vertex ordert the Toolings and pay for the Development, CNC-Programming and now, Vertex is the exclusiv Owner of this Skimmerline.

    regrads … Klaus Jansen
