Here on Reef Builders we usually report on the announcements of new products but it’s not everyday we get to spill the beans on a brand new company, Advanced Lighting Solutions (ALS). ALS may be a new company but it’s two founders Joy Meadows and Tullio Del Aquilla are among the most veteran professionals you are likely to meet in the aquarium lighting industry. Mr. Del Aquilla is credited with designing and building the first aquarium LED moonlight and the world’s largest LED chandelier. Ms. Meadows is the former representative for PFO and she designed and built one of the first marine aquarium greenhouses, Harbor Aquatics. With over two decades of aquarium and commercial lighting industry experience between them, we look forward to great things from Joy and Tullio. ALS will soon release a full line of fluorescent and halide bulbs and fixtures as well as some very exciting new products which will further innovate and raise the bar for aquarium lighting. Reef Builders will have exclusive announcements from Advanced Lighting Solutions including a forthcoming metal halide bulb unlike any two you have ever seen. Stay tuned.

Congrats to Joy and Tullio and best of wishes in their new endeavor. I still think PFO going under is a total sham… whats next? If I can put a household LED spotlight over a reef tank, does that mean then that the maker of THAT bulb is also in violation of the Orbital patent if it happens to work?

I have met Joy in person, and I hope their new direction brings them success. If there is anything I can do to help them… my spectralradiometer, quantum meter PAR testing grid, reflector software, and skills are at their service.

    Regards,
    Jon
