Back in 2007, a study was done that compared ATI bulbs to Aquascience bulbs. The study was done by Manuela Kruppas and Robert Baur-Kruppas and they wanted to see which bulbs performed better. Both of these bulbs were from German Manufactures and not from a Chinese origin. In their own words: “We were interested how different T5 tubes perform over an extended period of time under real life conditions. There are plenty of measurements floating around, made with different tubes in different fixtures, with different reflectors and under different conditions.” Although the study is over 2 years old, it is worth the read. Darn shame that study was done by a good friend of the owner of one of the companies involved as far as ATI vs Aquascience aka Narva AKA Giesemann lamps goes. The results seem to fly in the face of PAR readings done on the lamps but of course we all know that a Lux meter like used in that test is a better tool than a PAR meter for measuring reef lighting. That is why internationally respected experts like Sanjay Joshi and Dana Riddle conduct their tests with lux meters, oh, wait, they release all their results in PAR. Hmmmm, I wonder why……
