airliner

While the vast majority of us shop at our local fish stores for the best selection of corals, fish and other live animals a growing number of us order online from different retailers across the world. Upon receiving a shipment of livestock you no doubt will remember what is normal in the industry: mainly a stroforam box that is placed inside the cardboard box. Insides the Styrofoam box you’ll find cold or heat packs depending upon the season and then of course your livestock. The Airliner coldpack system uses only 4% of the warehouse space required by traditional foam boxes. They also boast that the “AirLiner system performs better in independent testing* than traditional foam packaging-keeping your product protected longer.” The inflated design gives better shock protection than a typical foam insulation packaging and the Airliner system ships to the retailer uninflated, which reduces shipping charges versus getting pallets of foam packaging. Overall airliner represents a major change for the saltwater industry and you can read more about their products on their website.

With an ever increasing price point and the fact they need to be sealed thus eliminating the O2 potential for the heat pack, I doubt you’ll see these in major use. Many of the wholesalers and big guys have tried them and dropped them. Some manufacturers use them as they are great for shipping frozen stuff.
