Trimless and braceless tank, check. Discreet and unobtrusive equipment, check. Stylish red metal stand and concealed filter system, double check. Reef aquarium legend Julian Sprung has nothing to hide with his main reef display aquarium splayed out across the pages of the french reef aquarium website, Recif France. His home display aquarium is a modern example of what a reef can look like when it incorporates many of the most elegant principles of current reefing trends. His layout and livestock choices are also off the beaten path; not many reefers can appreciate the rarity of the Indian Ocean royal sea apple. Mr. Sprung’s reef aquarium includes many large Caribbean gorgonians, a trendy bleeding apple Scolymia australis and an Echinopora lamellosa so large that it has been allowed to develop into a mature scrolling colony. Kudos to Julian for being one of the few authors to have an aquarium with a quality that is commensurate with his esteem in the reef aquarium world. As usual, there are tons more pictures after the break.

I echo the importance of having an “aquarium with a quality that is commensurate with his esteem in the reef aquarium world”. I have really enjoyed the books and articles by todays leading authors in the hobby, but you do not often see evidence of their preaching put into practice. I have suspected that writing, speaking, and traveling really eats into animal husbandry time.
