about Reef Builders

Reef Builders is an online community dedicated to reef tanks. Our popular reef blog informs reef hobbyists about popular reef equipment and the saltwater industry in general. We have discussion forums where you can talk about your reef tank, ask questions and receive help from reef community members. If you are just starting out in the saltwater aquarium world, reef aquarists have found that the Beginners Guide to Saltwater Aquariums and Tanks has been helpful in starting their journey towards reef keeping.

While we have been patiently waiting for the new Plasma light to be finish testing by Aqua Illumination, cherry corals got their hands on a testing unit and have mounted it for all to see. The emitter that is used in the unit is a Luxim STA-40 plasma lamp with the popular Lumenarc reflector. You can check out the video below and expect PAR numbers to be released when they get the tank filled. We’d prefer they mount the light on an existing tank so we wouldn’t have to wait for the aquarium to be filled, but we’re not known for having much patience. Below the break is a video of the Plasma light that you’ll want to be sure to check out along with additional photos.

Haha, that’s funny but I think that this technology is absolutely brilliant. Oh and a rhetorical question; why has it taken Orbitech as long as it has for them to say that they are doing LED lights without any results and yet another company has not only produced an LED fixture of noteworthy AND started to design other means of aquatic lighting. Once again a rhetorical question because we all probably know why.

I would like to grid test one of those for sure. I could do the same grid test that I did for the AI 88 to see how it stacks up.
