9002.000

While the rest of the world has been busy copying Tunze deisgns, Tunze has been busy improving them. One of their most popular products, the Nano DOC Protein Skimmer 9002 has been upgraded. The popular silence pump which we spied early has been placed as the main powerplant for the Nano DOC protein skimmer. Doing this gives increased efficiency to the popular skimmer while giving a slight bump to a quieter package. The old pump was 0800.040, while the new pump is 1073.008.  These have been shipping and most retailers should have the new pumps in stock by now, but you can always check before you pull the plug.

I’m trying to upgrade the 2 DOC 9002 skimmers that we own, anyone had luck in finding this pump? I just emailed Tunze so, I’ll let you know if I hear anything as well. The only issue we’ve had is that the skimmer is very fussy about the water height and needs to be adjusted constantly… well at least once a day. I’m hoping that a more powerful pump would help since the flux is only about 1/2 inch in the sump. Thanks for sharing Ryan!

Super fast response from Tunze to my questions:
Can I buy this from you and upgrade my current model?
Is the pumping capacity same/higher, could you tell me the flow rate?

“I have no definitive answer at this point. If it is possible, a fair amount of modification would be required, we continue to stock the old pump for the older skimmers. The main difference is the new pump is slightly quieter and has about 10gph more performance, the performance difference is pretty small.”

    Great support again from Tunze!

It can now officially be said that any aquarium product I buy will be replaced with a new model or upgraded within three months.

    Pmasson-

If the 9002 is that finnicky, I would recommend getting a slower feed pump for your ATO, like an Aqualifter. With an Aqualifter, your water level will not fluctuate by more than 1/32″, dependig on the “overfill” timer (if present) on your ATO unit.

looks like you’re not missing much…
