CV-XP-2000

Although we’ve heard talks about Reef Octopus putting out “cone” skimmers before, the Super Reef Octopus XP-2000 is the first cone skimmer we’ve seen from the Chinese manufacturer. Take a look at the Hurricone to see what we mean, somewhat of a half-cone if you ask us. This new real cone skimmer from Reef Octopus will feature the capable bubble blaster 2000 water pump, hopefully with the slammin clear volute, which you can see in action for yourself in this video. This cone body and pump combination boasts respectable specs but at a low price that will make you think that there has to be a catch: 1400lph of air while drawing 30 watts but for the low price of $399 and a 3 year warranty to boot! We’ll be scratching our heads trying to figure what we’re missing but the product shot definitely makes it appear as of a solid build. We won’t actually know the true performance and value of the XP-2000 makes until it into user’s hands, you’ll let us know if you get one right?

Very interesting skimmer, I wonder if it performs as well as the swc cones.

    they make a cheap skimmer
in order to still some customers from BK, ATB ,SWC etc …

    very poor skimmer
they make some mistakes desgin it.
I am quite sure it will flood since the outlet is too high
and the neck is not wide enough for 1400lph

It can handle 1400lph air just fine with a 4.5″ neck. This is the atb 840 econo body with a bubble blaster pump from honya. A nice deal. I do think like mentioned above your going to have to cut the standpipe as the exit is way to high, should be down at the bottom, but an easy fix.

    “but an easy fix.”
Yes , it easy to fix
But it makes me wonder if they even test it before they advertise it.

There is a race, who will produce better and cheaper skimmer, that race make some companies sell and advertise skimmers before they even test it.

the bigger problem is that peoples buy skimmers on presales before they see it working and then the problems comes up.

    To much skimmers with troubles:
    pump start
    noisy pumps
too much air on small body
unappropriate neck (too wide , too short …)
    etc

    bottom line
producing good skimmers requires some R&D
and a company that produce good skimmer after a long R&D time
and a month after creates a total different skimmer representing uncertainty of the product.
So the question is, what should the Hurricones owners should think now ???

Just wait until the larger one comes out that pulls 50w at 85scfh and pry will cost 500-600bux. Your right, its a freakin ratrace on who can come out with the cheapest skimmer that is designed well. If this guy pulls 50scfh at 30w with zero startup probs, and if its quiet, its going to be tough to beat. Besides the whole standpipe issue.

those stand pipes arent even glued, I would just put the wedge outlet at the bottom and then take the elbow off, you could use the small piece that would otherwise connect the elbow to the wedge to connect the wedge to the outlet.
the neck does seem like a close fit @ 4.5″, but as luke said 1400 lph isnt too much for it. 1400lph in a cone for $399 is pretty good if the pump performs as advertised, as dealing with CV’s CS is infamously poor.
