It’s OK to be amazed, we know we were. To think how some shops even stay open with stores like Vivid Aquariums to compete with is beyond me. If your not familiar with them we highly suggest you check them out online or at their store front location. If you own a store and have not seen what these guys are doing you should probably get a clue and see the way they run their facility. We stopped by Vivid, a no frills, no magic tricks or potions, just pure product shop earlier in the week but didn’t have the camera. Needles to say we were forced to commute the well worth 2 hour drive from San Diego to Canoga Park a second time just to get some shots of their 800 gallon reef tank. I didn’t have any issues finding knowledgeable people to talk to, all these guys are hobbyists and know their stuff. The incredible dispaly of chalices, amazing assortment of zoanthids, ricordia and aussie acans not to mention the insane Scolys and Cynarinas. The unreal amount of vividly colored SPS corals all priced within reason. If you had been to Vivid before and thought all they had was just great coral you may want to check back again real soon. Vivid has just put in an entirely new fish system and is working on a third row for even more coral! ( hit the read link to see all the eye candy and don’t miss this stunning video of Vivid Aquarium that we posted several months back)

Great shop – possibly the best one I’ve ever been to. Friend of mine took me on a brief shop tour while I was out in LA last year… you yanks are sure spoiled for choice. I even bought a stunning unknown acro for my friend just because I had to buy something.
Their display looks stunning. I can not wait to see it in person this month.
Man this shop has eluded me every time I go to the SoCal area, last time I missed their closing by 20 minutes. Hopefully I’ll be able to make some time to swing by in three weeks for the IMAC West show.
It’s a must see shop. The display is freaking amazing and as the article states, they have some cool dudes working there….
Hands down this is the best store around. Great
selection of amazing corals and below average prices.
And now that they’re adding the new fish system, I can’t
wait to go back. I’m lucky to be only about 40 minutes
away. If you’re within driving range, this is the only
place should go.
VIVD rocks. From San Diego you drove up? DO you live here in SD?

I live in the North County area closer to Fallbrook. It was very well worth the drive and I will be visiting back very soon for some corals for my new SPS tank.
Vivid is my LFS of choice. There are a few others in driving distance from West LA that are generally cheaper, but nowhere near as stocked or as healthy. Worth the extra dollars IMHO. VIvid’s propagation efforts (from the 800g mother colony tank) should also be commended, as well as the new QT tanks.
Their dry-good selection is not extensive, but getting better. On my last visit I noticed a Warner Marine AS150 skimmer for sale, a Lee Mar tank, as well as a Cardiff and Solana tank. Full line of Reef Nutrition Products as well.
JC- Right on! Nice to know you are close by.

MFR- I’m very interested in contributing more to the local reef community. Please let me know if you or any local clubs are up to anything in the neat future.
