The OT2 T5 and LED hybrid luminaire from Arcadia lighting is a forthcoming lighting fixture whith the potential to blend the best of both types of lighting sources. The product is set to launch in 25 days from now, as indicated by a huse teaser ticker counter on the product webpage which promises to reveal “full details” when the timer is up. The styling on this lighting unit couldn’t be any sexier from this angle and we can wait to look under the hood of this bad boy. As with most Arcadia products, this T5LED hybrid will most certainly make a European launch well before this product makes it statside (if it isn’t intimidated by Orbitech’s bogus patent). Althought no other details about thisĀ  light have been specifically revealed, we predict the OT2 will have a hinged design which allows for easier access to the aquarium without removing the fixture, as evidenced by the features of some other Arcadia luminaires. We’ll be keeping an eye on this one.

It would be one thing if Orbitech had a real desirable, efficient product here in the states available at a reasonable price. But as it stands, Orbitech has no product out on the market, at any price, and their patent only stands to prevent any real competition from taking place in the US aquarium marketplace. So no, I am not a big fan of the situation with Orbitech and their LED patent.
