A interesting feature within Google is their book search. You can search from a huge library of books and you can view full copies of out of print books for free. Recently Google announced that you could download over a milion books in the open EPUB format. “EPUB is a lightweight text-based digital book format that allows the text to automatically conform (or “reflow”) to these smaller screens. And because EPUB is a free, open standard supported by a growing ecosystem of digital reading devices, works you download from Google Books as EPUBs won’t be tied to or locked into a particular device.” There are several different devices compatible with this EPUB format. A quick search for reef related books finds A Handbook to the marine Aquarium 2nd edition which was published in 1856 by Phillip Henry Goose. This book was the result of the marine aquarium “increasing in popularity” and that a hand book should be written. Phillip goes on to describe that aquariums should not be “air tight” as oxygen is needed for the “living things” to survive. Pretty impressive stuff for 1856.  You can do a search for other aquarium books and it is interesting what might turn up.

We had Paul Baldasano a 30+ year reefer come out to our club and talk about his experiences in the hobby. His history of the hobby included these Victorian women from this era "collecting" live aquaria from the shorelines of England, this after they had exhausted the keeping and documenting of plant life. This is way cool!
