ORA has released another new coral named Blue Iris. The interesting thing about this new coal is that ORA didn’t take the Blue Iris under 20k’s so the blue tips aren’t as vivid as they normally would be. In fact, they don’t look blue at all. More like Purple…like the Iris Flower. Okay. So we understand where the Iris comes from, but where is the blue ORA? You can expect this new coal to begin appearing at local fish stores around the country. We doubt this coral will be as popular as their Red Planet that they released earlier as this picture needs some serious help like showing us the “blue”.

The blue comes from the lack of red pigments that are typically overwashed in your aquarium bulbs I'm guessing. I have a few "blue torts" that when I pull the rocks out for heavy duty fragging, I see they're actually purple in sunlight. Really makes me want to setup a sunlight tube over the tank too if it wasn't for the fact the algae would potentially like it too!
@Mike
I notice this in my Oregon tort looks purple in direct sunlight. I have my tank next to a window with very thick shades. I open them about 1 weekend a month and turn my lights off.
I would see it that about 1 month out of the year when the sun rose in just the right spot to get between a couple of trees and through a window, when the tank was over on the south side of the house. Sunlight would zap through in the morning hours, leaving a completely bad ass rainbow shimmer line effect (take that halides!) and yeah the blue corals did look a bit more purple
