reefkoi-1

Whoulda thunk that it would take almost a decade of making frag plugs and frag discs for someone to make hexagonal “discs” that can fit together without wasting space? If you don’t already know, Reefkoi is respected high-end coral grower (even though he is kinda metro) who has been making stops at nearly all of the major coral growing markets including IMAC West, MAX, Reefapalooza, Coral Farmer’s Market and many other local and regional events. As part of their increase in coral growing capacity, Reefkoi has worked out an exclusive deal with Boston Aqua Farms to have these hexagonal frag discs to be made complete with “Reefkoi” stamped on the bottom. We were  at Reefkoi HQ in Colorado Springs this weekend and if they can pump out as many corals as they do from their few frag tanks, with the three frag pools they have in development they’ll be able to supply frags to you, your LFS and a couple of wholesalers with a few frags left over to top off the calcium reactor. These revolutionary new honeycomb discs will be on display at MACNA at the end of the month as well as some of the finest LE corals as you are likely to see at the big show. We’ll be revisiting Reefkoi in a couple of months for the grand opening of their expanded aquaculture facility.

Very nice. He always does a good job of presentation of product at shows… as well as having some killer corals.

Make sure he introduces you to his friend Jack, especially towards the end of a show.

Mike you beat me to it, square tiles have been around for a while. Personally, Id rather use circles as they are more natural as the coral grows out rather than a square or hex mount…

I think the hex is a good idea, granted not as natural as circles like Ian mentioned, but a bit better than the harsh angles on square mounts. You could just line these puppies up and let corals encrust over and snap between the edges too.

I think the squares are great, and to be honest, they have been around for ages and waste 0 space..these hexagonal ones look like they would take up alot of extra space.
