The Fluval G3 and G6 canister filters are the first two models of the Fluval G Series from Hagen. The highly anticipated G Series of canister filters have been in development for many years and Hagen has been teasing the new feature rich filters for several months. The Fluval G Series is defined by  a self adjusting and monitoring electronic system called the Hydrotech Monitor which displays flowrate, temperature and conductivity on a bright splashproof LCD screen. The styling of the new canister filter is somewhat reminiscent of the Red Sea Max line with it’s black laquer finish and silver base band. Also in contrast to the typical “layer-cake” style media arrangement of typical canisters, the Fluval G filters include two seperate mechanical and mechanical/chemical cartridges which have been designed to be very easy to service and can be replaced without turning off the power to the unit. The fluval G3 is rated for aquariums up to 80 gallons (300 liters) with a flowrate of 185 gph and the fluval G6 is rated for 160 gallons (600 liters) with a maximum flowrate of 264 gph. The msrp pricing for the UK market will be £299.99 for the Fluval G3 and $492 £349.99 $574 for the Fluval G6 canister but let’s hope that the US pricing doesnt follow the exchange rate too closely. This filter will rock the freshwater world of gcanisterpeople who can afford it but with that reduced flowrate, this filter will be relegated to being a fine secondary filters, especially for large marine fish with very messy fish.  Let’s hope the teaser video on the FLuval G  website becomes replaced with a full product demo soon.

update: We found the full version of the second video teasing this canister filter unit but it’s in German; the screencaps of the filter are from that video which you can see after the break.
