Ponyo- On the cliff by the Sea is a new movie by master animation director Hayao Miyazaki. Mr. Miyazaki was also the producer of the critically acclaimed Spirited Awai which was quite an enjoyable cartoon to watch as an adult, even without any gore, violence or sex. Ponyo was widely hailed in it’s initial Japanese language release but now that the Ponyo movie has been remastered in English and it is being distributed by Disney, we hope that this movie could be the Finding Nemo of 2009. This could be a boon for LFS owners who saw massive spikes in the number of new tanks sold to legions of children who had to have their very own Nemo or Dory fish and it was the bane of LFS workers who to this day still have to answer questions about Nemo-fish. Although the movie is rated G, the magical storytelling will be enjoyable for old and new aquarists of all ages.

I can't see this movie as having anywhere close to the impact of Finding Nemo.

I already watched at home. It is more for children, but not for Adult. I watched all Miyazaki Hayao animation, I always enjoyed his movie.

I dunno, I'm quite torn over the "Nemo effect" yes it tossed a ton of money at the industry, probably gave it a good jump start as far as all the technologies that started popping up because there were more people to sell to, but how many bad things came of it? Put the industry into the spotlight for all the people "destroying the reefs", how many times have you seen the super-juvenile blue tangs just so you can toss fish the size of a quarter into a 10 gallon tank, seem to recall some stories/articles about how clownfish in the wild are dwindling due to anemones being harvested, etc. Now how much of that is due to Nemo, I can't say.

Bottom line, Nemo may have hurt the hobby as well as helped it.
